Hey Dakka,

I've been trying to come up with a way to run a genestealer cult-themed 40K army off and on since 4th edition (disclaimer, the old "Space Hulk" game of genestealers vs. DA Terminators was among my first experiences with the world of 40K)... but I've never really been happy with most of the (few) forgeworld attempts ...

So I'm thinking that (since the allies matrix doesn't let me take 'nids as allies to an IG army ) that the best way to try to run this is through some fairly massive kitbashing -- some things I've done before, but seem to have lost the models...

I recon that since most of the lists I've seen in the Army lists forum for 'nids include a Tervigon, that I'll need termagants -- which I was thinking of hybridizing with some genestealer bitz, termagant guns and IG bodies (my previous attempt used some Ork bodies, but every player I showed 'em to said "ork-a-nidz" which was not what I was looking for)...

I also had an old-school zoanthrope model (back then they still had claws) to which I added a genestealer face and some other bits to be a walking tyrant

But since 4th Ed's models have the 'nids looking more unified, I'm thinking my new modeling challenge is going to be adding human/human hybrid models to fill out the force.

One idea I've had (and used in the past) was to model some of the multi-wound models (like warriors) with mixes of bits from IG & 'nids (using extra IG bodies to represent the extra wounds)... turning a warrior w/ venom cannon into the equivalent of an IG heavy weapons team

But I'm a bit lost as to how to represent tervigons -- obviously a genestealer cult army isn't going to have something just generating new cultists, right? ... or do I maybe take a theme from Aliens and model the tervigon as IG troops that have been implanted by genestealers then put on hold until needed for the fight?

Anyway, I'm mainly looking for modeling advice here, but I'd also like advice on which 'nid models are worth making the modeling stretch to include in my army...

Many thanks in advance

I'm confused - when have Forgeworld ever attempted to do Genestealer Cults?

It may have been White Dwarf, but it was a _long_ time ago... there were genestealer magus(es?) the only vehicle was an armored limo... nothing to write home about... but there were some neat aspects of it... some troops that were essentially IG/renegades, and hybrids of several varieties (incorporating various levels of genestealer-ness, some more choppy, some still slightly more shooty).

But I've always loved the idea of the 'nid swarm sending out space hulks with genestealers ahead of the full swarm to establish cults/weaken the resistance (very "Aliens"-ish and fun, IMO).

for the tervigon i could see you modeling a hatch in the ground with cultists spilling out reperesenting more spilling out from the undercity or what have you. Though you might have to have a piece of something signify the original height of the model for LoS

I swear I think those two have a hate-crush on each other sometimes.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Tervigon is a psyker, and a monster. However you model it, it's going to need to be able to fight.

I would actually consider a diorama with a broodnest, along with a cultist in a sentinel power lifter, a magus (cult psyker).

That is a pretty cool idea (especially combined with the ground hatch idea...

I'm also thinking I could model a biovore as the equivalent of a mortar team with the biovore gun... and possibly also mycetic spore(drop pods) as 'stealers breaking out from underground tunnels or something...

Any thoughts as to how to make a hive tyrant look more genestealer-y ... I'm definitely thinking a lot of the protrusions on the carapace would need to be carved down (possibly even completely replacing the head with a broodlord head?) and using a set of rending claws in addition to/instead of one of the other weapons?

Thanks again for the ideas so far...

Actually since I'm generally thinking of a list from 500-1000 points, maybe I should be thinking more in terms of a tyranid prime rather than a tyrant?
