So we ran into some questions about the Repulsor Shield.

It says that if the Jack is hit, after the attack is resolved the attacker is pushed back 1". This doesn't work if the shield arm is crippled or locked. My opponent argued that if the shield arm is intact at the beginning of the attack the push still happens even if the arm is destroyed by the attack. Argument being that the effect is triggered by the hit and will still go off. Thoughts?

Also, a lot of online advice says to weapon lock the shield arm to avoid the push back - however, isn't one of the effects of engaging in any weapon lock that you can't be pushed apart? So it would be better to arm lock the halberd weapon to deny the stronger weapon while still being immune to push back.

Thanks

If the shield arm is crippled after the attack is resolved the push doesn't happen. One of the conditions for the push to happen is that the system isn't crippled, if the system is crippled then the push doesn't happen.

If you lock the halberd you can't be pushed back as well, but the main reason that people advise to lock the shield is because if the shield is locked then the Revenger doesn't get the bonus +2 ARM and that makes it allot easier to kill it!

If the shield arm is crippled after the attack is resolved the push doesn't happen. One of the conditions for the push to happen is that the system isn't crippled, if the system is crippled then the push doesn't happen.

Specifically, my understanding is that based on Appendix A, when you go to resolve the Repel effect after the attack that caused it you re-check the conditions of Repel for validity. Because the system is crippled the conditions are no longer met and Repel doesn't trigger.

I'll chime in to agree with PhantomViper. I'm pretty sure that the Repulse on the Repulsor shield reads "when this model is hit... after the attack is resolved... unless this system was crippled by the attack."

Ah ok great thanks! That's how we ended up playing it, but don't want to think we denied him his ability.

Haha - ok I see - I was hitting him with a Juggernaught Ice Axe, so I guess I wasn't even thinking about getting past the armor.

Well... If you only had 1 focus, I could see locking the halberd. It would deny that model his reach for other things, and lock down into a combat that he has a poor chance of doing anything about.
