Good work, now find me one that's less than 5 years old.
I already had this argument when people were convinced Crisis Suits would get an upgrade sprue, I'm not any more likely to be wrong this time than last time.

Oh give me a break.
Half of those were main releases, and some of them aren't even upgrade sprues (the Dark Angel one contains full Marines, and the Bastion one is required to build a Bastion). And most of them are ancient as well.

Posting the snap-fit boxes of 3-5 guys isn't really fair to this discussion since those are basically booster packs and not fully-fledged kits. That's like saying "GW wouldn't sell something that is less than a unit!" then pointing to the Chaos Aspiring Champion blister.

To be fair, I've been regularly ordering kroot boxes from my local GW store. They've been shipping within one week. I ordered one last week and it should arrive friday. Other than the inconvenience of actually ordering them, I haven't been having any trouble getting kroot. I've ordered two boxes so far, on two separate occasions, one week apart.
As long as you are willing to pay full price and order direct from the horse's mouth, as it were.

Except that wasn't the statement made by Ultraprime since the Aspring Champ is a HQ slot or an upgrade. He said unit box, not blisters.
Nice strawman though. He was fluffy. Too bad you had to kill him.

OK - so GW sells the snap-fit cultist from the 40k starter kit separately at 5 for $10. They likewise sell the snap-fit Lothern Seaguard from the Fantasy starter but at 5 for $16.50. What is the difference here that the Seaguard sell for so much more. Especially when you need so many more of them?

Except that unless you buy a DV box, there is no other way to get that unit. If they sold cultists in a seperate full box, I'd totally agree that it's simply a booster pack, but when your only other option from GW is to buy a $100 box where most of the rest of the models likely will go unused, I think it's a valid example for a unit that is sold illegal out of the box.

Yes, but it's pretty obvious that it's a booster box. It's sold the same way as a booster box, at the same price point as a booster box, and in the same quantities of a booster box. It's not a proper multipose plastic kit. I don't think you can complain that it doesn't form a full unit; instead complain (rightfully so!) that there isn't a proper kit for it yet.
Even so, who the hell cares? This means nothing and doesn't really apply to the conversation. The thought is that Kroot will get cut down to a box that might not make a legal unit size, but there's not a precedent for that happening with a real plastic kit. Maybe they'll get cut down to 12 models per box instead of 16. Maybe they'll get a resculpt with more options (hah, right) or maybe they'll just get new box art. For all we know it means nothing and in a month they'll be right back where they were, as we've seen with items on the webstore before. We don't know yet.

I don't necessarily disagree, but to a new player trying to figure out his army, the semantics mean f-all.

I agree, however I was addressing a particular point where someone said that GW doesn't sell illegal boxes, which is untrue. I don't think they would turn the kroot into such, but I do think the chances are pretty good they are going to cut it down, repackage it, and keep the current price.

This is great news! As a new player you probably find it difficult to choose between Citadel™ Kroot™ and Citadel™ Fire Warriors™! Now you don't have to! Now you can buy your Citadel™ Fire Warriors™ at your local Games Workshop™ Hobby™ Center™ without being confused, because the Citadel™ Kroot™ will be direct only and twice the price! But don't worry, all Citadel™ FineDirect™ models are available at www.gamesworkshop™.com™, and with free shipping™ on orders of over $5000 you won't even notice the extra cost.
In other great news, we are pleased to announce a Citadel™ One-click Bundle™ of 50 boxes of Citadel Kroot™, enough to supply even the most passionate Kroot™ collector.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

One our local stores got some kroot in. They came in a plastic ziploc bag like the deffrolla upgrade sprues. Not sure if it's because they're direct now or because they're having issues with supply of boxes. They got a new Tau commander in a white box instead of the full color box used when Tau came out in April.

As Kroot boxes are available within 24 hours in Europe and North America and the discussion is not even close to topic, I guess we are done with this thread and it should be closed.

I walked into my local store today, and they had two Kroot Carnivore sprue sets in big plastic citadel bags rather than the actual box. When I asked why, he said "they shipped them that way, they must have run out of boxes or something."
Whether it means anything, I'm not sure, but it did seem strange.

The Dark Angels Chapter Upgrade frame is sold the same way. It's not a "regular stock" item.
It is curious that the Kroot Carnivores are not listed as a Direct Only item but it makes me curious as to if they're going to be redoing the boxes across the 40k range to match the "new" plain black styles at some point soon.

With a minor upward price adjustment for taking out a sprue and deleting all traces of non-English markets on the cover of course
That said, Kroot carnivores (a standard unit) have indeed been removed from the retail list and are therefore direct only.

Really? Wasn't aware of that. Last time I ordered something that didn't have a box (which was some years ago), it came in one of their white, unlabeled Citadel boxes.
The last plastic bag with minis I received was from Prince August and contained dozens of loose Warzone figures for something like £0.10 a piece. Nice to see GW is also finally opening a budget line. Oh, wait...

Our local store received 2 wave serpents in plain cardboard boxes right about the time they went direct. Could mean they are having box issues or could mean that when ordering direct you no longer get a pretty box.

Generally if it's something small, spruewise, with very little chance of things coming loose or getting lost they'll use the bags.
I've gotten sprues of Lothern Sea Guard and Dark Angels Chapter Upgrade frames in bags, along with the Land Raider Terminus Ultra frame in a baggy as well.

If they haven't changed the price; then it's not impossible they decided to cut down a small cost driver. I've noticed the instruction sheets that come with models now appear to be much cheaper. My nephew asked for some GW stuff for his birthday, so I got them for him, and I immediately realized the aseembly instructions looked like they were mimographed onto flimsy recycled paper, not at all like the professionally made instructions that came with my Necrons in 2011.
