So. Today, PP put up a Kickstarter for a new turn-based tactics PC game called Warmachine: Tactics. This is different from the action video game they teased years ago. That one couldn't find a publisher, so this time they're doing it the crowdfunding way. Link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/409030043/warmachine-tactics
Anyway, to commemorate their first Kickstarter campaign (which has started out VERY strong so far), PP created models for new character journeyman warcasters for each WM faction except Cyriss (too new, limited release, yada, yada, yada) and is releasing them as backer rewards. These sculpts are KS exclusives! After the Kickstarter is over, they will literally be breaking the molds. HOWEVER, if you miss out on the KS, there will be a general release of these characters with different models. And so you know if any of them are worth picking up, here are their rules. http://privateerpress.com/download-the-stats-for-the-warmachine-tactics-kickstarter-models-now
Oh, and did I mention there is a full warcaster in there along with his epic version? The twist on this guy is the normal version works for Cygnar, but the epic version works for Cryx. Both are part of the KS, too.
Finally, Hordes will be getting a similar treatment depending on this game's success.

The main thread on it is Here in the News and Rumors thread (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/538768.page), but it's probably good to have a thread here too, just to let those who don't check that forum know about it. And from that thread: They look pretty sweet.

Can anyone say 4 battlegroups on the table at one time (in a single caster game)? Because Cygnar sure can!

Do I understand it right that the only way to get those extra units will be to participate in the kickstarter?

Sort of. The only way to get those sculpts is to participate in the kickstarter (and the cards and coins). Alternate sculpts will be made available after. Or some people may try to sell their stuff on ebay, so you might be able to get them without the kickstarter, but it'd be in limited numbers.

Yeah, a local here wants to use his to run a judicator, with the excuse that he can totally protect him with an 8" focus range, and will keep praying shielding to protect against backlash and other stuff.
Seems like a really easy way to lose 21 points to me.

I think the new Cygnar one is interesting- mostly because we already have a Jr. Really, I see Lt. Jakes as being a way to take additional melee 'Jacks, for a couple reasons.
1) Def 17 while B2B with her buddy- this puts her in the "Rather hard to hit" category.
2) Parry- allowing her to survive an enemy running to get B2B with her.
3) Energizer- while useful for ranged 'Jacks to get the aiming bonus, a lot of the time you could simply use the focus to boost anyways, and we have good range on our jacks as well, so the extra melee threat range is more useful.
4) Better stats all-round- The only stat that is worse is Arm, and her better Focus load means that she can reach the same Arm as a regular Jr., but still with better defense.
5) Lack of Arcane Shield- she loses one of the Jr.'s big advantages, the Arcane Shield Caddy. This means she can't do the whole "Buff, Hang back, and upkeep" thing. I therefore think she needs to be more aggressive to make her points back. She also is a smaller loss to your army if she does die (as you lose her and a 'Jack, not her, a 'Jack, and a unit).
As such, I think she will be most useful with a melee or combined-arms Jack. She can use her buddy spell (making the Ironclad-chassis Def 14) and still give the 'Jack a full focus load.
So, here are three 'Jacks which I think would be excellent with her:
1) Ironclad: Def 14 Heavy. I just have to say that again. Not Impossible to hit, but frustrating- most things will have a just under 50% chance of hitting unboosted. Also, the Ironclad is cheap, so is a bit less of a loss if the caster bites it. Could be really good for scenario missions which require you to split forces, as you now have a fully functional (Def 14) heavy which is not tied to your warcaster.
2) Defender: For those of you who don't want to be too aggressive, the defender would be a good choice: Good enough to benefit from the melee abilities of Jakes, but not forcing you to commit up front. Alternately, use the defender as usual, keeping Jakes behind it, and picking off anyone your opponent sends to tie down the defender before sprinting away. A bit more expensive than the Ironclad however, meaning you will want to be more defensive.
3) Avenger. This guy may finally have a friend. Jakes can use energizer to get him up the board faster, and buddy pushes his defense up to respectable levels. Energizer 2", aim, and boost to hit, you get an almost respectable threat range and RAT 6, allowing you to hit the broadside of a barn, especially when boosted. Like the Defender, the Avenger may then wade into the fight with a beefy melee weapon, or simply have Jakes fight to keep it clear of harassers. Is also expensive, and unlike the Defender has to get close.
Anyways, those are just my first thoughts, eh?

No one is a Journeyman Warcaster like Gastone! Sorry, I had to do that.
On the other hand, I am pumped for the Protectorate and Merc one (Gastone can work with the Protectorate), which means I could get a lot more focus on the table.

Yeah, if putting a colossal on a journeyman becomes a common occurrence, I predict more Khador players will bring Kossites. I'd spend 4 points to take out 21 points any day.
As a Khador player, I really dig Andrei. He'll find a home with any caster with Boundless Charge. I'll give him Conquest to try it out, but I really think his niche will be turning a Berserker or Juggernaut into a cruise missile.

I am tempted to repost this to the threads on the PP forum of people objecting to Khador not having access to Gaston. PP is giving you a reason to use Kossites instead!

To be fair, I'm allot more impressed with Gastone + Vanguard in my Cygnar than I am with Jakes + whatever (especially with Sturgis).

I was reading about the khador caster and found what they said about him to be really odd. They said he is solid, but his arm/def are the worst out of all of them... less even than a manhunter solo... And his melee ability is... almost the worst? Low POW and no abilities... at least the cygnar chick has two weapons and the protectorate dude has good abilities on his. It could be argued that the merc caster has weaker melee, but the merc caster has flank which makes him instantly superior in every way in melee, plus he gets 4 pt vanguards that are perfect for the flanking. The only thing I am really interested about the khador guy is having redline for our jacks, which is quite good of course. I am also hugely excited about the Merc journeyman but it is odd that is specifies which charter he can go with. I wonder if he can still go with a highborn list since he can be taken with cygnar?

Yes, he can go Highborn. There's no need to specify that since he works for Cygnar. They needed to specify Talion and 4 Star because he isn't a Pirate and doesn't work for Khador/Cryx. Otherwise, he'd only be allowed in Highborn.

The issue is you're looking at Andrei as a melee solo. He's basically a free focus to fueling a buffed warjack so Khador's generally greedy warcasters can go about theri business. His hitting power is irrelevant. He has no business being closer than 8" to allocate his warjack, and surrounded by troops to die in his stead if someone tries to shoot him.
That's really the case on most of these. The only ones that, to me, have any business doing anything but supporting their jacks seem to be Jakes and Aiakos. I'm not sure what the Retribution one is supposed to do at all, mind.
And stuff.

Aspis'. Counter charge something, push it 1" back. If it doesn't have reach, or your opponent wasn't expecting this, or was barely in anyways, they now have a couple problems.
