Subject: Favorite scene from Pacific Rim? [SPOILERS]

Pacific Rim premiered pretty much everywhere yesterday in theatres. The company that made the movie, Legendary, is also doing the new Godzilla movie in 2014 (which will kick A**), and are responsible for the amazing Hellboy movies. The company's CEO is a fanboy who funds most of their stuff and whose primary (possibly only) concern is to make great movies. Support Legendary if thou art man enough!!!
Pacific Rim was a great fim filled to the brim with great scenes, and to those who saw the movie, what was your favorite?
My favorite scene was when Gipsy Danger went through the portal to the other universe (which was incredibly beautiful, immensely alien, and filled with dozens of greatly designed kaiju made only for this scene. This scene probably took half the budget) and detonated it's nuclear reactor.

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." |

Well for the most part, the bits where giant robots are punching alien monsters in the face.
As for the subtle stuff, I liked the entrance of Rinko Kikuchi's character, awaiting a helicopter in the pouring rain, her face shielded from our view by an umbrella. Very anime I thought.

Yeah.....spoilers, I guess.
Probably the entire first fight of Gypsy Danger in Hon Kong was my most favorite, especially when they first arrive on the scene to the rescue. It was that anticipated "Here's what happens when the badass veteran shows up" scene.
Followed by the underwater scene with slicing the charging Kaiju into halves with the sword.

The moment where the mech was walking down the street dragging a ship as if ti was a giant sword or club was pretty striking...

I like the scene where the 'hero' robot let the other two robots get destroyed and their crews murdered, and thousands of people in hongkong died because Hollywood needed a flashy pointless drawn-out battle with robots doing wrestling moves...
And when the hero gets backed into a corner, a horribly cheesy panel drops down with a 'sword' button which apparently can slice the monsters like butter. Since Swords don't run out of ammo, why didn't they start with that and why doesn't every big robot have 'weapons' instead of getting into a losing fistfight with monsters?
The movie was dumb, Hollywood schlock pandering at its worst. And the joke scenes were all 'groaners'
I saw it opening night, first showing in Imax 3D. The room was not at all sold out, and people were groaning in pain the entire movie. The last movie I saw this bad was 2012 where the heroes outran a volcano, then in another scene outran a second volcano.

Lol, not a fan then? I liked the sword scene. It was indeed ridiculous, but I thought they executed it quite well.
YMMV of course.

Cheese is par for the course for a Kaiju film (and something that is really a western styled homage to a predominantly Japanese genre).

Difference between this and transformers, is that the movie and the people making it knew that it was not going to win any sort of awards and just made a movie that was campy, a bit cheesy, but FUN. It looked like everyone had fun making that movie.
Idris Elba did great in it.

I'm a massive apologist for the first Transformers film, which I happen to think was great and had the right balance of action, talk and humor. It was the sequels that let it down.
Pacific Rim overall had the Balance about right, though I think the last sequence let it down a bit by being too long. Though it might have been me as I saw a late showing and was tired. There were plenty of awesome sequences in the film. The Scrap where Gipsy used a ship as a baseball bat was probably my favorite.
Bad points? Well I thought the end was a bit of a Hollywood cop out and I'm undecided if it was a slopping writing or just me interpreting 'the rules' incorrectly. A 2nd viewing should help.
Oh and the Scientists where awful. Naff comedy relief stereotypes that ruined every scene they were in. In fact they reminded me of those bickering 'twins' from the 2nd Transformers film. By far the worst thing about the film.
Despite this I'd still recommend the film though. 3rd best film of the summer so far behind Iron Man 3 and Star Trek. Though I fully expect Elysium to kick the ass of everything released so far and I’m cautiously optimistic about Wolverine.

I actually liked the scientists. That whole side plot was more enjoyable than the 'daddy won't let his little girl grow up' mellow BS that pervades a full quarter of the film.

I loved the Easter Egg (just saw the movie): "Now where's my goddamn shoe?!"
The whole movie broke down into Godzilla vs Transformers, it was designed to be a fun movie, and it did a great job at it. The reason for two pilots worked, wasn't overdone, made sense, and above all added the necessary amount to the film. All in all, solid B+: I enjoyed it quite a bit, but could find a couple things to nitpick on later viewings. I gave Superman a D and This is the End an A, if that helps.

Fraz, you hated Avengers. I think it's time to get back in your wheel chair, and have that hot nurse give you your old person meds, as you're clearly off your rocker.
Ps, Superman was trash. The sad part is how much I looked forward to it and WANTED it to succeed.

I found the entire film highly enjoyable, but the scene I was most impressed with was when Mako "chased the rabbit" into her memory of her first encounter with the kaiju when she was a young child.
I was very impressed with the acting - the child seemed truly terrified. It was a very convincing sequence.
