Hey guys,

I am at a loss, I know in 5th ed units with jump packs could not embark upon transports, but I cant seem to find anything in 6th that maintains this? I know a unit with a jump pack counts as bulky, and would take up 2 spots, but can anyone direct me to the page where it actually says they cannot use transports in 6th edition?

Thanks!

It's a codex entry not the rulebook that restricts it.

The bit that says in the rhino entry that they don't allow bulky units to embark in the new codices.

For the old ones you may want to check with your TO as they'll probably cut that off at the knees. Unless there is an faq about it, there is no restriction in the BA codex for rhinos to carry jump infantry.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

That way,then left

There's a part in the transport vehicle rule that mentions (excluding jump and jetpack infantry). I've gotta dig up my book to be more precise
Edit : found it . Paraphrasing : Only infantry models can be embarked in a transport (excluding jump and jetpack infantry) unless otherwise specified.
Second paragraph under Transport capacity page 78

The rule book only gives permission for infantry units to ride in transports. So jump infantry units can't ride in any transport unless another rule gives them permission, like the stormraven.

I may be missing something, but why would you want to put assault marines into a rhino?

The Blood Angels assault marines can drop their jump packs for a discount on a transport. I hear it was pretty popular in 5th.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help.

The reason is to see if I can attach an HQ character with a jump pack to a rhino mounted squad. I guess not though, thanks for the help!

I'm wondering why the HQ has a jump pack if he's destined for a Rhino squad? ...unless it's a fixed one like Dante.
Anyhoo, you can take the Librarian and give him Wings of Sanguinius for roughly the same effect if that helps.

On a related note; Does the restriction apply to land raiders too? It would be pretty brutal rolling up a land raider then HoWing from the assault ramp.

EDIT: More so with a deepstriking land raider packed with vanguard. Crazy blood Angels.

The infantry-only requirement applies to all transports as a blanket rule. You can only put jump infantry into a transport if that transport has a specific rule of its own that allows it.

I believe Landers can either carry bulky or have a specific exception for Terminators. But you Stormraven can do it.

Under 6th we don't need to be told Terminators can board Land Raiders anyway (and in the case of Space Wolves, drop pods). Any transport (unless mentioned otherwise, as usual!) can take Bulky Infantry models, that's not what stops Assault Marines from embarking - it's their unit classification.
This is why there is specific wording in Codexes to stop Terminators from boarding Rhinos or Razorbacks, if it wasn't specified it'd be perfectly fine. There aren't any such combinations at the moment, but if there were a non-Termie Bulky Infantry unit for Marines they would be allowed to board as well.

Other examples include Ogryns going in a Chimera, or Grotesques in a Dark Eldar Raider. They're both Bulky, but still Infantry.

To be more precise, any transport, unless specified otherwise, can take Bulky Infantry models.

There's a very common misconception that the Bulky rule somehow over-rides the need for units to be Infantry to embark in transports, which is what leads to the frequent 'can bikes ride in transports?' type questions.

Yes, thankyou, that's pretty much what I was trying to get across. Edited the post to make it clearer.

Technically assault troops are infantry, they are just Infantry (Jump). the the entry for Rhino's says they can't embarke on it.

The entry for the Rhino in Codex Space Marines makes no mention of Jump Infantry, only Terminators. The reason that Jump Infantry can not embark in a Rhino was already posted by B0B Marley earlier in this thread.

sorry that is correct. I mearly meant to point out that Jump infantry does not exist in 6th. It is Infantry (Jump).

Jump infantry are specifically prohibited from riding in transports by the transport rules in the rulebook.
