Q: Do units that are transported in a vehicle that MUST start in
reserve count towards the number of units that can be placed in
Reserves? For example, must I count the units in a Drop Pod or
Valkyrie towards the 50% of units I can place in Reserves? (p124)
A: No.

So does the FAQ mean I can essentially deploy nothing if I'm going 2nd and everything is in a drop pod or is a flyer?

Yes, you can. You can do it if you go first as well.

Provided you find a way to solve the IC problem, IE giving him his own drop pod/flyer you man make it work.

Though if you have nothing on the field turn 1 I think you auto lose.

There is no IC problem, read the above FAQ

Is the IC a unit transported in a vehicle that must be kept in reserve? IF Yes Then he does not count...

As for losing on turn 1, yes if at the end of game turn 1 you have nothing on the field you lose. Which prohibits all flyer reserve armies, but Drop pod assault means you always get models on the table turn 1.

You can do a 99% drop pod army. But as said, if you have nothing on the table on turn 1, before your drop pod's land, you auto lose before they arrive.

If you have nothing on the board at the END of turn 1 you lose.

I believe that's how it worked in 5th. Now, you need to have at least one model deployed

"If at the end of any game turn, one player has no models
on the battlefield, his opponent automatically wins." pg122

still works.

1) 5th edition had no "turn" rule for losing mid game. It was entirely legal (and often) for people to reserve everything.
2) As has been pointed out the urle is that the END of any game turn is when you can lose by having nothing on the table.

ICs can travel inside Drop pods and start in reserve just fine, as they are a unit embarked inside a vehicle that must deepstrike
