I would rather take heavy weapon autocannons teams then waste 1) a leman Russ body and 2) a heavy slot. Cheaper and more shots especially with bring it down. And the guys point about it against anti air I think he means that a vendetta and auto cannon team are about the same amount of points but can do a lot more. It's "versatile" but it's not effective compared to other things.

Yup. I get you. Autocannon teams and Vendetta's would be better against fliers, but the OP was asking about the various LR variants and which would work best with his existing list, against the opponents he plays' against the most.

do not use any other russ variant apart from battle tank, demolisher and executioner, simple as that. anything else are either non cost-efficient, does anything horribly, or there are better units elsewhere to fulfill the same role better.

I'd add Exterminator because the closest equivalent in firepower is either the extremely fragile HWT or the more limited Hydra.

Honestly the LR Eradicator is really nice against xenos, yea if your facing marines and the Eradicator is all you brought then your fethed. But since daemons and xenos seem to be the meta currently, then denyng 4+ and cover saves, and then usually wounding a 2+ or 3+ seems like a damn good deal to me.

On top of that, they aren't ordnance, so you can fire sponsons as well as your large blast template. I usually take a bolter boat with the Eradicator, as most of the time you won't be shooting an Eradicator at a vehicle. Thats what you bring a Pasquisher for.

Leman Russ is not really a good tank in my opinion, but it is also not so bad. My favourite is Demolisher. Yes, that range is pain, but otherwise this tank seems to be most universal. Its gun is good against vehicles (S10, AP2), against 3+ and 2+ armor, against monstrous creatures. For other things you can always use other units.

I liked the Eradicator until someone pointed out that the Hellhound could do the same thing better and cheaper.

I think the majority of the artillery are better only flaw i see is if you do put them out of Los they will scatter more. Leaving them in Los means there a little bit easier to kill.

Russes are pretty durable when it comes to having tough armor until assault, melta or lance weapons come into play.

Variants ive come to like more are the vanquisher with lascannon and plasma sponsons or the punisher with mm sponsons and lascannon. Ive been testing both lately and both have been doing great for me. I still love using my LRBT but otherwise eradicator bolter boat is great for those cheap geq units on objectives

Hi all. What is the opinion of running demos with flamer sponsons. Three flames will help cook anything which can come close (which they will), also it will help with weapon destroyed results.
Another question, does anyone use a demo and punisher (mm + LC) in a squadron. Both can target armour and troops, both have the same range and squadron rules provide more survivability.
Thanks

Seems that you'd want them shooting at different targets though? A Punisher isn't going to scratch the paint of a LR.

But with two MM and a LC it will and when firing at elite troops the MM + LC + demo shell + punisher fire will kill anything.

scenario: vs AT

punisher gatling cannon: 10 hits, 6.66 wounds, 1.11 fail save
lascannon: 0.5 hits, 0.42 wounds, 0.13 death
mm: 1 hit, 0.83 wound, 0.27 death

so.. that`s around 1.5 AT death, around..60pts?

and this is all your expensive 230 pts tank can do in one turn.

scenario: vs LR

punisher gatling cannon: meh
lascannon: 0.5hit, 0.16 damage
mm: 1 hit, 0.5 damage

but keep in mind, your tank is almost the same price as a fully equipped land raider...

What about the basic LRBT with three heavy bolters?
Cheaper than the fancier variants and simple to use. Just target infantry, light armor and walking MCs.

Thanks for the reply. Those stats don't look to good. The punisher will have a demo with it in the squadron which will help, a bit! What in your opinion would be better AT, two demo or two publishers with mm + LC. Four mm should result in a kill.

tooooo expensive, and low survivability. Unless you are playing ABG (which is rare) you shouldn`t use your leman russ as your anti-armour

Classic LRBT with HB hull and sponsons - excellent against orc hordes and common marines. It can pop Rhinos too.
Another good choice is Executioner plasma tank. But with plasma sponsons it will became too expencive and cause "gets hot" damage. So maybe HB sponsons is better.
Vanquisher. BS 3 sucks. Pask is expencive and he works only on one tank.

Vanquishers are also anti-transport, anti-light armor, and anti-skimmer... and anti-heavy armor, and anti-terminator, and better against monstrous creatures, and cause instant death to T4.

Exterminators are just straight better than LRBTs, but vanquishers are better against most things than the exterminator, if you only consider what exterminators can do well.

minigun762 wrote:I liked the Eradicator until someone pointed out that the Hellhound could do the same thing better and cheaper.

The eradicator can fire first turn, isn't nearly as vulnerable to assault or giving up first blood (or, well, not as vulnerable in general to anything), and can come with two multimeltas instead of just one and it also comes with a lascannon. Better armor and more dakka make the eradicator better.

Unless, of course, you're running a chimera highland charge, in which case you need the armor up front. Otherwise...

minigun762 wrote:What about the basic LRBT with three heavy bolters?

Firstly, as mentioned, the battlecannon has a terrible damage profile, what with only being one shot, only being S8, and only being Ap3.

Secondly, a bolter boat LRBT firing everything gets an average of 1.5 heavy bolter hits per round of shooting. So what you really meant was an LRBT with a single non-snap-firing heavy bolter.

It seems like such a shame to spend so many points on something when just a few more will make it actually kill stuff.

Don't forget that the HBs have to snap fire because of the ordnance main gun. This makes sponson guns on a LRBT or Demolisher pointless.

It can pop Rhinos too.

But not very well. Shooting at vehicles with a LRBT is a last resort option that you really want to avoid.

Re: the punisher being too expensive for anti tank, the mm+ LC combination gives it options if armour comes it way, otherwise it can kill troops. It will especially work well against terminators etc. It is a versital tank

Damn, I had forgotten about the changes to Ordnance weapons and forcing snap fires. Very valid points to both of you.
