The SDCC has just released a teaser of the Sentinel head for the upcomming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Liking the look, not a bad transition from comic to live action if you ask me.

@rob_keyes The Sentinel head is designated Mark I and it's 50 years old. It's NOT the Sentinel the X-Men will primarily be fighting.

So it appears this might be one of the original designs used and marking it as 50 years old means what they will have in the future could be more advanced looking.

Interesting.

I'll be curious to follow this one in the future... hopefully, they'll bring more Gambit into the movie.

What I am wondering is...If that is 50 years old and what we might see in the future is more advanced, how much more advanced is it? Is it "Nimrod" advanced?

I hope DoFP is not depending on the Wolverine movie because if his last movie is any indication of quality, DoFP is screwed.

The first Wolverine movie already ruined Gambit. That said, he DOES play a prominent part in Bishop's childhood, and Bishop is supposed to grow up in that time, depending on which potential future the X-Men haven't recently prevented from happening. So maybe they can do him some justice.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Fairly major point of the movie. Wolverine tracks him down because Gambit was the only mutant to escape from the 3 Mile Island facility, and he brings Wolverine there.

I wouldn't say the movie ruined the character. Taylor Kitsch played him pretty well, aside from dropping the Cajun accent, his powers were generally in line with the character and he wasn't killed or anything. He just seemed to be a big name character thrown in as a cameo because people wanted him in there (like Ryan Reynolds as Wade).

I'd agree that Gambit wasn't ruined by the Wolverine Origins movie. Maybe my feelings are clouded by how bad it could have been looking at Deadpool, but I thought Gambit escaped mostly unscathed. Taylor Kitsch did as well as he possibly could have with the role; which isn't that great since he's a fairly mediocre actor, but "ruined" seems a bit much.

The Sentinels look sorta OK. I was hoping for something a little more block and retro but I also accept some things from the comic just don't translate well so will withhold judgement.

Yeah, I actually really liked what they did with Gambit in Wolverine.

But then, I was never a fan of him in the comics, so my expectations weren't high

But if what they were displaying was supposed to be 50 years old, first run Sentinels (?), what we see them fight could be more in line of the ones we know from the comics.

I like that the Sentinel is unlike the comics version because it gives them room to grow in potentional future films. There's a comic based one in Last Stand and apparently one in the "uncaged" edition of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

As for any downgrading of the first Wolverine film I'd have to it would be Ryan Reynolds. How does he keep getting roles playing action heroes. R.I.P.D. looks like it would be better without him. But it's still watchable with Jeff Bridges & Marisa Miller.

Sorry, but Gambit without a Cajun accent is like Psylocke withou the sex appeal. You just don't do it. Oh...wait. FOX did that in X-Men 3 too. Nevermind. And anyone who wants to argue that the Psylocke in X3 was sexier than comic book Psylocke needs to rip up his man card. Full body clothing vs swimsuit that always rides up her ass? Yeah. Give me the swimsuit.

I honestly could care less about the costumes since I dislike most of the costumes from the comics or just know they would be silly seen in real life/on screen.

While I completely agree that Gambit without the Cajun accent is odd and shouldn't be done.

My nominal opinion regarding accents in movies is that, if you can't pull it off (and Cajun is difficult to pull off), then don't bother. As such I didn't mind that Kitsch spoke using his normal voice.

I think that X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been dropped from the official canon of the X-Men movies anyway. The new Wolverine movie directly contradicts Wolverines past story as established by Origins. Specifically by having Wolverine as a prisoner of the Japanese at the end of WW2 when according to Origins he took part in the D-Day landings. Both can’t be true.

Quite how the Japanese managed to take Wolverine prisoner is another matter altogether.

Actually it's pretty feasible considering that all Wolverine would have to do is fake his death and "enlist" over with the marines in the pacific theater.

Also they can't just ignore Origins as it established the bone claws in his movie history . Also I don't think it would be too difficult to get transferred to the Japanese if he was captured during D-Day... a year, a month, and 3 days passed between D-Day's initial assault and the bombing at Nagasaki.

I admit it's theoretically possible for Wolverine to do it. It's just seems odd not to mention how or why it happened.

Also it seems to contradict that according to Origins Wolverine and Sabertooth were inseparable at the time, yet no mention is made of Sabertooth or his location at the time of Nagasaki during the new movie. Origins also conflicts with First Class as Professor X still has the use of his legs in the late 70’s in Origins, but he gets paralyzed in 1963 according to First Class.

I think no matter how you look at it the timeline is going to be a mess. It will be interesting to see how Stryker is portrayed in the new film, that should at least give us an idea of what is an isn’t official in regards to his back-story.
