Oh hell. Guess that puts an end to watching any of the BBC channels for the next couple of weeks. Every time anything happens that apparently has the national interest all of the BBC channels are flooded with it. Hmn, guess its local tv broadcasting for me as I absolutely couldn't give a toss about some over priveldged brat. =P
At least we get to see lots of soldiers toting about in silly archaic dress, and a forty one gun salute with WWI and modern pieces. Which was kind of smexy...

If you can count someone who studied at St Andrews University as a commoner...
...Wait my ex was just as poor as me and she's studying there. She does however lack a pocket watch, like a number of her fellow students carry (or every student at Oxford apparently).
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

My only hope for the lucky couple and their new bundle of joy is that Alex Salmond has a kid called Rob so that the independence debate devolves into a recreation of The War of Five Kings.

Ive not seen anyone in Oxford with a pocket watch, though i will admit there is a very distinct level of odd dress code here which i am still getting used to...

It is because deep down you know you should really be back in the Empire, where you belong.
Speaking of which.... do you feel the urge to be back to the Empire you belong? (well at least from sea to Hadrian's wall) XD
We're not such fans of togas, so I think we will stick with our own Empire thanks

Shoulda been something like George Alexander Christopher... as in George (North), Alexander (Corbisiero), and Christopher (Robshaw).... That woulda been more epic

Aren't William and Harry actually using "Wales" as their last name for practical purposes? Cpt Wales for military and such?
I'm fairly sure that Mountbatten-Windsor is the proper family name, but yes Harry definitely used 'Wales', which is odd, because he's not the Prince of Wales.

It's only Wales; I'm sure nobody will mind him having it.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

From what I read when the name was announced and this website which I've read far too often it seems since Prince William's marriage is that members of the British royalty can choose whether to have a surname or simply use the name of the royal house in which they reside. So this explains why Princes William and Harry have gone by Wales because their father is the Prince of Wales, and that is where they resided. Now I guess technically William could go by William Cambridge since he's the Duke of Cambridge, but it's more likely that his son, Prince George of Cambridge will simply come to use Cambridge as his last name. I've done a little more digging, and the Mountbatten-Windsor name is to be used in all cases of The Queen's descendants, other than those with the style of Royal Highness and the title of Prince/Princess, or female descendants who marry, would carry the name of Mountbatten-Windsor. So I guess technically since William is a Prince (as is George) the Mountbatten-Windsor name could not actually be carried.
Feth you Brits got a lot of rules about this gak

All this because the Royals had a German-sounding name at the start of the Great war, IIRC.
