Ok I've just started imperial guard and I have got myself 1 standard infantry squad and a CCS. I was wondering what kind of things I should get next. My kind of army is probably going to be lots and lots of troops supported by A LOT of tanks, such as leman russes. They will all be behind an aegis defence line. Over the past few weeks I have been doing a few odd jobs so I have about 200 to spend but I dont plan on spending it all, so 100 pounds should be fine. I will also be making my own aegis defence line. Thanks.

Well, if you're going to run a foot list, you're going to need 40 more dudes in addition to what you have. You've got the CCS and the models required for two PCSs, so now you just need the four requisite infantry squads.
After that, I'd get some lascannons and either melta or plasma guns for those infantry squads, and then get a couple of russes.
Just make sure not to glue anything down on the tanks.

I am guessing that they will get a catachan and maybe even an Steel Legion supplement. Out of a pure guess that is, but seeing how things are going they'll probably release a guard codex and then a cadian supplement.

You're going to need a lot more infantry and some tanks (obviously) As Ailaros mentioned, bare minimum you'll need is 40 guardsmen. That'll give you enough for 2 barebones platoons. For all but the smallest games, you'll probably need more than that. I would shoot for two 30 strong platoons to start with (3 infantry squads each) with their PCS"s and a CCS. Other good investments that might work for you would be a Commissar Lord and some heavy weapons. I prefer Lascannons, but Autocannons can pull their weight too. As for Russes, Executioners, Demolishers, Punishers, Exterminators, and LRBT's can all be handy, depending on your need. Use the heck out of magnets so you can play with your loadouts and find one you like.

This, oh so much this. Magnets are your friends when it comes to Russes. The ability to change your list on the fly is a great one.

What to get:
1) A lord commissar (your new HQ, which joins the combined squad behind the ADL) and infantry squad, giving you a legal platoon for you first troops choice once you turn the CCS into a PCS with 4x flamers.
2) A squad of veterans with 3x melta for your second troops choice. You need at least one mobile scoring unit and offensive threat, and the vets give it to you.
3) A Vendetta to carry the vets and kill tanks/aircraft. Vendettas are powerful right now, and an automatic choice in pretty much any IG list you will ever take.
That gives you the core of an army, and from there you can choose your tanks and aircraft to supplement it. Just keep adding an infantry squad and Vendetta every ~500 points to make sure you have enough troops as you build your collection.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |
