So I was looking on GW's site this morning and noticed something strange. Each codex that was 5th edition or older was priced at $33 while the SM Codex was priced at $41.25.

The 5th ed Marine codex is a higher price because it's 146 pages compared to the standard 90'ish or so that the rest of the 5th ed books are.

All our 5th ed Codices are $55 while the 6th ed ones are $83

So definitely not on the Aus site.

It's Space Marines...of course they cost more. You're paying extra for the privilege of owning them.

This is the answer. They even justified it in White Dwarf by calling it their biggest codex yet or what have you.

Conversely if the SM codex was cheaper then it's because they're the GW poster boys and they want it cheap so little timmy can get his dirty little hands on it, and you have to pay a "xeno tax" that makes the other codexes more expensive. It's always win-win for the anti gw crowd eh.

All the 6th edition codices have also been hardbacks while 5th edition was all softbacks.

The OP mentioned that, by listing only 5th-ed prices.
I thought they were a couple of £/$ either way, though, including the SM, Like the OP said.

Aye, we can generally find some way to twist anything around if we try hard enough.

My original post was not intended to be serious, sorry if it got misinterpreted through the internet (and I might very well be misinterpreting yours as serious when it was not meant to be, but I figure better safe than sorry).
