The eye of Terror

So I just found out that the league that I play in started a new style of gaming and the way it works is that every two weeks you buy a box of an army and battle with that and add to the army, so it started 3 weeks ago and today is actually the first time I would be able to play.

Here is my thinking, going to probably go necrons, issues, first buy has to be a troops choice and the second buy has to be an HQ, catches to the league, you only get one box from your armies perspective HQ and Troops choice so dakka I ask you what would you go with?

I was thinking a box of warriors and a destroyer lord with scarabs res orb and warscyth any other thoughts?

To begin with, if I've understood correctly, add to the army box:

(army box start: 2 x 10 warriors, 1 GA, 5 scarabs, 5 death marks)

1 overlord

then each fortnight:

1 overlord
3 wraiths
3 wraiths
3 destroyers
3 destroyers
AB
AB
DS/NS

16 weeks of fun.

If you start with a battle force then your next purchases should be Anni Barge, Anni barge.

If you actually have to buy a box of troops and an hq, buy immortals and Imotekh. You can proxy Imotekh as anyone later and he would be awesome in a small point game.

I am doing the exact same thing in my league but I'm doing Space Marines. The necrons in our meta are doing the middle of the road. I suggest immortals for the teslas triple wound on sixes.

warriors, then annihilation barge which gets you a hq and a heavy support would be my suggestion. Idk if that's legal but a standard overlord is better than all the special characters.

also imotehk sucks at small point levels and is broken at larger ones because he is to expensive at small points and until you play larger games where the chance for his lightning to strike is greater. more units, more sixes simple probability

Re the warriors vs Immortals, it's a question of whether you want more shots (the warrior box has 12 warriors plus 3 scarabs) or better save (3+ for the 5 Immortals). Also the immortals have S5 guns with Tesla.

From the OP original post, the game is troop plus HQ. For the HS slot, definitely Anni Barge.

Of the named characters I find Zandrekh is very useful. If I need an orb, I will normally take Z over a standard overlord, because he comes with SW, PS, Orb plus buffs. As you say Imo is usually better at larger point games. However, in this case because of the rules (1 troop and 1HQ only) there is no reason not to take him. You get nightfight which will be critical for getting to 24" plus lightning, as well as Phaeron, orb etc. V useful for tanking shots.
