In most free and democratic countries, journalists hold governments accountable.
Stephen Harper is trying to put an end to that.
Now that Bill C-60 is the law of the land, the Harper government can exercise control over the wages and working conditions of all CBC employees, including all those who produce news and current affairs programs.
This gives Stephen Harper an unprecedented capacity to undermine the CBC’s editorial independence and turn our national public broadcaster into a government propaganda machine – a state broadcaster!
The CBC must now contend with more political interference than any public broadcaster in the free and democratic world.
A new Nanos Research poll shows just how isolated Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have become, standing alone as a rogue government desperate to control and silence the CBC and other media outlets.
Together, we can hold Harper’s Conservatives accountable for their agenda to destroy public broadcasting in Canada.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
Also isn't CBC supposed to be about Canadian culture as a whole not about political control?
Right again!
CBC Mission Statement wrote:CBC/Radio-Canada will be the recognized leader in expressing Canadian culture and will enrich the democratic life of all Canadians through original, innovative, quality Canadian content that reflects and draws together Canadians, actively engaging with audiences while being cost-effective and accountable

Harper is like Nickelback. Nobody admits to buying a Nickelback Album yet they sell millions. Nobody admits to voting for Harper but he's still the PM.
Didn't watch the video......look to much like Afghanistan on the screen.....

Yeah, I'm not sure how he's been PM for so long.
Maybe because the only other options are;
a) a guy who wants to divide the country into a constant sate of east vs west bickering.
b) a guy who wants to give those lonely, socially excluded terrorists a hug to make them feel better. (while legalising pot so that the government can then control the growth of it and tax it to death!)

Less the 30% of the country voted for this snake, yet he has a controlling majority. We have a broken electoral process.

Right again!
Don't worry, once Harper gets control of it, it'll be more about Canadian culture than ever before!
I look forward to reports of Dear Harper's 18 hole-in-one golf games, and learning about how he raises the sun and draws in the tides.

I like Nickelback...
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
And honestly, when the other so-called choices are Mulcair & Daddy's Little Dimwit, Harper suddenly isn't quite so bad a choice.
Wrong, completely and utterly wrong.

Harper always came off as a communist so this is no surprise to me, and what really surprises me is that dumb arses still vote for him when he pulls crap like this

..
More people voted for him than someone else, so he gets to be Prime Minister. System's fine.

It's really not. It's possible to win a majority while not even having the most votes. The current system is horribly broken.
And while Harper did have more votes than any other individual party, 30% of the votes should not be enough to represent 100% of the country. Especially when it's not too hard (especially since the people investigating are apparently pretty spineless) to manipulate the entire process through the placements of just a few votes.
A system where something like this can happen is not one that is in any place near "fine."

The alternative is the American system. A crippling bureacracy that's supposed to be "checks and balances" but is just hopeless gridlock. I wouldn't trade for that.

Yes, we can finally get Costco and Wal-Mart. Oh, the wonders.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Anyway @fafnir. I just watched that video. I thought it was going to be about our political system but it seems to be some conspiracy theory.
