I thought you were being sarcastic but now I don't know. Wal Marts and Costcos are everywhere and I wouldn't be surprised to learn more American Muscle Cars are made in Canada now than in Detroit.

I think the STV could work for a province like BC. An uncontrollable government on a small provincial level is dangerous because it can get away with more because misdeeds are not as reported by the local media.

Increasing gridlock on a federal level is not needed because our media actually does a fairly good job of being the check and balance like the CBC......oh wait.

You've obviously never heard Nickleback (pictured), then.

Granted, the F-35 (pictured) gets quite a bit worse when you find out that the government (pictured) lied about its cost to taxpayers by the tune of over $15 billion.

But that's just a drop in the bucket compared to Nickleback.

Maybe my sarcasm detector is broken, but... we have Walmarts and Costcos (Costcii?) up here.

Also, if an attempt was made to turn the Canadian health care system into something like the US's, I think there'd be rioting in the streets.

Very, very polite rioting.

It's the Canadian way.

But I can agree that Celine Dion and Nickleback are crimes for which Canada will be paying a debt for many centuries to come.

And I kind of like some Nickelback songs.

Funny story, it was years before I even knew this was a controversial view. Had no idea it inspired raw venom in some people until it happened to come up around a girlfriend at the time.

I personally have nothing against pre-Silver Side Up Nickelback... however, that's the album that made me give up on radio for good.

Hide it?

I roll around in it in public like this.

I like it when others watch.

It got something. Usually every Canada thread stereotypically devolves into a conversation about hockey. Not this time! This time it was Nickelback....

I thought it always devolved in Canadians rationing healthcare or strategic maple syrup reserves.

Damnit, don't tell them about the strategic YOU KNOW WHAT reserves!!

They're already getting desperate for lumber, water and other resources!

Stephen Harper:

How he stays in power.
-All party public communication is scripted .
-All spontaneous cornering of an MP by the press: he is to remain silent or remember a few stock phrases.
-Either blame an unelected official or eject an MP from the party to be an independent if something goes wrong.
-Completely destroy or absorb any rising conservative party: not having a split vote on the right is key.
-Pay for smear campaigns of the top opposition leader (already seen a few of these on the CBC, should cost his party less to get them done now, has Rick Mercer addressed this already?).
-Nurture multiple parties on the left "the more the merrier!" split the vote!
-Attack the leading opposition party (or if they start moving too "center"- that is a huge threat) until they are low and then find the next biggest (like whack-a-mole).
-As PM never do anything newsworthy in country, easier to have a low profile and work in the background.
-Out of country try to be as public as possible, easy to explain away any issues abroad due to cultures and the press "not having the full picture".

I honestly cannot see how his strategy can go wrong, only a VERY strong center party could suck enough of his votes and some of the left.

It also helps out when;
a) The Loosers Party of Canada has elected or outright crowned 3 leaders who've either been utterly useless, obscenely arrogant or completely out-to-lunch!
b) The one guy who might have had a shot at challenging Harper due to his 'likability' gets taken out by cancer.

Harper will stay in power, even if perhaps a minority, until the opposition parties can finally put up a decent leader who doesn't scare the crap out of half or more of the country.

If he doesn't feth up for another 5-10 years, then he'll likely become PM at that point. Right now, too many old people see him as "hey, you kid".

I missed that... agreed.
The new leader only needs to scare 2/3rds of the country to possibly beat him... which is scary all on it's own.

Please, Harper isn't that bad.

Now 'ol 'Daddy Dalton' on the other hand? Here's a pathological liar who's spent 9 years turning the richest province into one of the poorest & who's also commited criminal acts to keep his useless Loosers Party in power. (*cough*cancelledgasplants*cough*)

Debatable.

I'm ont a fan of anyone who panders to farmers by eliminating the agency that protects me from tainted meat, and assumes that we can just take the farmer's word that everything is okay.

hmmmm...

Odds of eating tainted meat? Rather miniscule.
Odds of Ontario tax-payers forking out $5 billion a year in 2016 due to the ludicrously bad Green Energy Act? 110% certainty.

And that's on top of the hidden Green Tax, the HST, repeatedly raised tax rates (after promising he wouldn't), E-Health, Ornge Air-Ambulance, the cancelled gas plants (which is still being fully tabulated), the teachers unions fiasco which didn't see us save a penny (just spend more money the province doesn't have! )

Oh, and thankfully the Harper government stepped in on behalf of Ontarians to quash the Fiberals attempts to illegally hike the HST on us...

As a British Columbian, what the Ontario Provincial Liberal Party gets up to doesn't concern overmuch, we have our own Provincial Liberal slimeballs do deal with. As a Canadian, what the Harper Government gets up to does concern me, a great deal. And what they are getting up to, frankly, is disturbing.
