The Eye Of Terror

Hey everyone, today I am happy to share with you the results of months of work, my first Warhammer 40k army.

The Blood Reapers are a chaos warband that I came up with, made up of former Blood Angels Death Company, Cultists, and Traitor Guard. They worship Khorne (though the list does use a few Tzeentch marks) and their backstory involves The death company finding man eating little shop of horror style roses that survive on blood on a daemon world they had been sent to. Khorne offers them a cure for the black rage in exchange for their fealty. The Marines agree, and take the roses and attach them to their armor, feeding them with the blood of defeated enemies, which they partake in as well. The newly formed vampiric Blood Reapers then begin amassing cultists, converting guardsmen, and laying waste to feed their hunger.

So, after a lot of painting and converting, I present to you the Blood Reapers. Let me know what you think, and enjoy.

Hm...one phrase comes to mind.

Thin your paints!

Emperor I am melting!

Hyperbole aside it looks like you've got the colour down but you should water your paint down more so it doesn't come off as so chunky and thick on the models so when the light bounces off it doesn't seem as dull. I would also recommend using some washes to bring out some contrast between some of the colours, that or some highlights.

Yeah, I had some trouble with the skin color for sure. I mixed up a green-blueish patina for the bronze color, though it's hard to see on some models in the pictures. I really like the contrast it gives to the warmer red and bronze. I'll have to keep that in mind, especially when I do faces.

If you're going to post models to be judged on dakka make sure you paint everything with 87 layers of 90% water 10% paint. Only way to be sure the people here will approve.

Not bad, not bad at all I absolutely love the backstory, but I'm unsure as to whether Death Company understand the word 'cure', and if they had terminators xD Still love the idea though, keep on going mate

That hasn't been my experience at all with posting pictures of my models, and I don't see it with others either. If anything, I think people are a little bit too kind to provide honest criticism.

Please thin your paints. That's all I can really say. All the detail has been ruined or covered by thick layers of paint.

Waiting through the summertime
To thaw your hearts in wintertime
That's why they're singing, singing

Agreed. Think your paints.

THAT BEING SAID

I am really digging the little touches like the skeleton arm poking out of the front of the LRMBT and the cathedral on the LR. And the heart design is pretty awesome, too.

I do appreciate the honesty of the criticism. Considering this is my first ever army, and the length of time It took me to paint (since about September '12, on and off) the quality and technique do vary greatly. Considering the time spent, I'd like to think I've definitely improved.

Thanks, I had to make a few lore exceptions for gameplay. I guess in the terminators case the blood reapers are either really persuasive or really good at theft.

Noted. And yeah, I took quite a bit of effort (apparently more than during the application of the paint) in ensuring every model was unique. when it comes to conversions and such, the devil (or should I say chaos gods?) is in the details.

I really like what you've done with the Helbrute! I don't know if it was intentional or not, but without the head the teeth that are there look like a giant maw instead.
I may just take my own and green stuff a massive tongue coming out of it - thanks for the idea.

Thanks, it was very much an accidental find when I was assembling him. I thought it looked really cool, so I kept it like that.

A lot of people are saying that the paint is too thick etc. I actually think that the finished product looks unique and 'blanch-esque'. As long as you're happy with your models that's all that matters.

Oh, yeah. I think it's a first army painted feeling of accomplishment. I didn't quite expect some of the responses on here, but I'm pretty happy with the army myself.

Awesome Conversions Really like the LR, but I would recommend dry brushing and washes for your models as well, you have a coherent uniform look to your army which is great but I would most certainly dry brush and wash your models especially for flesh areas, as it usually works best on flesh areas .

If you don't know what dry brushing or washes are just ask and I will answer

Awesome remember you can use the paints you own as washes, just put a load of paint you want on a pallet then add a shed load of water to that paint as well
