Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine

I have a friend I painted a model for. Was one of my best pieces. Some female sorcerer model. I forget what range, Anyways He had it in his display cabinet. One day it disappeared. He hunted for months for it. About the time he gave up hope on it he saw his daughter with it. Turned out she wanted to model as a guest at her tea parties.

Peace.

My buddy, who at the time was the sales manager for gw on the eastcoast, played Salamanders. He had 10-15 land raiders in his army sitting on a self. At some point he got into a argument with his crazy gf. He left the house to spend some at the bar.
While he was gone his gf went into his game room with a frying pan and proceeded to demolish all of the land raiders.
He was able to recover three with extensive battle damage.
Me on the other hand, I've lost about about 5k in models due to theft over the years. But it happens.

I threw away a bunch of tannhauser minis I had sitting around today when I was cleaning. I don't know why I had them still (I don't have the game) and the scale was too large to be used for anything else.
So in the trash bin they went!!

Why not sell them or give them to someone who likes the game?

I was in the process of painting my 10 GK paladins. They were all pretty much done and sitting on my desk. My cats tail hit one and it fell to the floor - breaking off a sword arm in the process.
I've never found that arm..... I have hardwood floors and there isn't anything under my bed. It isn't too big a deal since there are plenty my arms left on the sprue..... but just a big mystery.
That was a few months ago and I still haven't bothered to paint up a new sword arm - can't be bothered lol.

Honestly, because selling them is a huge pain in the ass. I eBay crap occasionally, and have TRIED to used the Swap Shop, but selling stuff online and then shipping it is often more hassle than it's worth. For these tannhauser figures, that was really the case.
I've thrown a bunch of stuff out this past year simply because It was too much of a pain to put it up for sale.

In the late 90s I was a teenager living on my own for the first time. I had a ramen-and-microwave-pizzas kind of budget, and went and got into Warhammer 40k.
My space marine army consisted of the contents of the 2nd edition starter box, but I really wanted Terminators, as they were pure dynomite under 2nd edition rules. The boxes were still $50 for five, and that seemed crazy. Instead, I saved my pennies and bought a 2nd edition copy of Space Hulk. It had a mountain of Genestealers, and two full five man Terminator squads - practically a whole army themselves by the rules of those days.
I lovingly painted them up as Ultramarines. Then, I took them to one game. And on return, I was missing two of the basic tactical terminators with storm bolters.
In retrospect, two terminators is nothing to worry about. Even metal, that was $20 lost - I've bought and sold whole armies, so losing two lousy terminators shouldn't keep me up. But they were so expensive, and so rare, and so precious... I turned things upside down trying to find them, but they never did turn up.
I've built and painted numerous armies all over the 40k spectrum since, but 16 years later, in my bitz box still sits an unloved terminator sarge and heavy flamer in crude 1990s candy-colored Ultramarines livery. Their one surviving tactical buddy was folded into a different army with new colors, but I never found a home for the others. And, although I now have 15 Blood Angel terminators, when ever I open the bitz box and see that flamer and sarg, I still smart for losing the other two, and wonder again what happened to them.

Do what I usually do - post a swap shop thread and then link it in your sig. I've made hundreds of bucks in the past few months for things I could have thrown away, and I'm happy with the few minutes of effort and the other people are happy for the deal they got. I leave the funds in my paypal and forget about it then next time I'm ordering something I go to pay and remember I made some cash, and then whatever I'm buying is basically "free" lol.
Or bring the figs to your FLGS and see if they'll sell them on commission (even if they make like 5 bucks for you, that's 5 bucks to spend next time you come into the store) or just give ask the store if you can give them away, maybe to some new gamers that can't afford much. One of my early purchases back in the early 90's was some dude's box of 40k stuff for ten dollars (he was gonna throw it away!) but in that box was some land raiders, rhinos, about 50 beakie marines, land speeders, all kinds of stuff. Insta army, helped me get started.

There's a box, or maybe a couple of boxes, somewhere, in storage, that has up to three Armorcast Warhounds, and 1 or 2 Armorcast Reaver titans. Also some Armorcast/Forgeworld (original US-based Forgeworld who sold licanced GW stuff, not the more recent GW subsidiary) Tyranid stuff - some crab-clawed thing, mycetic(sp?) spore(s?), Khorne Cauldron of Blood, and.. possibly some other stuff.
Also, many of my old codices and WDs, Warzone 1st ed books, and so forth.

Yeah, seriously. Throwing away minis should be a crime. You could have put up a 'send me $10 for postage and they are yours' post in the Swap Shop and it would have been gone in 10 minutes. Shameful.

I guess it's shameful? I mean, today $10 might not even cover postage and gas to get there. That's part of my point; Its easier for me to just toss em then to go thru that hassle, especially since I've had little luck selling anything on Swap Shop.
Honestly, I usually throw in extras of stuff I want to get rid of when I do sell stuff on ebay, but like I said, too often for me the hassle isnt worth it.

Okay, make it $20. The point is that throwing away something valuable just because you don't want to be arsed to deal with it is just wasteful. There, perhaps that's a better word than shameful. Not to mention that you don't even have to leave your house to mail things anymore. USPS allows priority postage to be printed and put in your mailbox for the mailman.
As for not being able to sell on the Swap Shop, that's all about having pictures, good descriptions and being responsive to PMs. I've sold TONS of stuff on SS/Bartertown/Local forums and it has never been a problem.

I mean, we could go around in circles here for days. Maybe it's wasteful, I don't know, but I certainly don't feel any shame over it.
But, for your peace of mind, I'll try not to throw too much away when I do some cleaning this afternoon

If you feel tempted, ship it to me. (Depending on what it is, I'm more than likely serious.)

I put about 100 mantic elves in the recycling bin (I called the recycling centre to make sure they'd take them first). I gave painting 10-20 of them twice before I decided that the world was better off with them being made into a bucket or a bag or something. I had gotten them at 75% off retail, so I didn't feel too bad about it.
As for "You should have given them away!" I think reusing the plastic for a mop bucket (or whatever form they spend their next life in) was better for everyone.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I was disappointed by them and tried more than once to paint them up in a way that I'd want them in my collection. The value of them being gone *in that moment* was worth more to me than being reimbursed for the small amount of money I put into them.
I get that other people like them. I liked them at first as well. Now I think I did everyone a service by having them transformed into whatever it is they use recycled plastic to make.
Also, shipping from my location to the US would have been around $35, $50 if I wanted Paypal seller protection through tracking.
