That is incorrect. This is the Sig System paragraph:
Any character in your army that may select Signature Systems may not select from those listed in Codex: Tau Empire, but may instead select from the Signature Systems of the Farsight Enclaves (opposite), at the points cost shown. Note that XV104 Riptides in your army may select items from the Signature Systems of the Farsight Enclaves.
I bolded the important part. You can take them on non character riptides.

As for bsides, you've recouped their image for me, but they don't really fit my mobile theme.
As for the ToM on riptides; it doesn't say model with battle suit only. Just 1 per army.
If you fire the scatter laser you may only fire 1 wraith cannon. I think the odds are better firing both. Save the points and have the farseer take guide and prescience, if you are lucky you might get fortune.
Also, I threw the ToM on the HBC rip instead of the Mark'o. I figure the riptide is likelier to be hanging out in board center being a boss and projecting a 36" F-U to fliers and reserves; thoughts?
Just saw this comment. The riptide should never operate midboard. Its bad enough that its susceptible to long range ap2 weapons but in the middle of the table that includes small arms fire. I would use it in the 6-18" area within the front lines or up the board on a weak flank. Stay away from small arms. Treat him like a terminator because thats what he is with long range and 5 wounds.

Pg 88 of the digital Farsight supplement allows for riptides to take signature systems of the farsight enclaves. One of the systems is made for the ripitde itself.
The Codex: TE riptides can not take signature systems.
Edit: I did not see the above post. Sorry for the redundancy.
Not to be too off-topic here, but what has been everyone's experience with the HBC profile of the riptide. I have not really had a chance to try it myself, just the IA profile. Haven't had many opportunities to play as of late.

I feel you on long strike. I normally preach all or nothing on vehicles. I just think the Bsides might die before they can actually do anything; being such high target priority and its not like I'm taking a bunch to mitigate that. Longstrike can hide behind a building and the. Zoom on top of it on my turn. (These are strategies concerning me going 2nd)
If I hide the Bsides; they're not relentless so will be snap shooting next turn. And in 1/3 of Nova missions, it's Vanguard deployment. So assuming they lived to T4; they'll probably be snap shooting until then getting in range against any non-assault army (most if them).
Thanks for the advice; rebuttal?

ICs can attach to a non-droned Riptide @ nova...Farseer an ride with him be T6... Wraithknight gives me board control and counter assault. Jetbikes give me cagey scoring/line breaker....
Thoughts?
Absolutely get that Scatter Laser off of the Wraithknight. You can only fire two weapons and you are better off firing the two HWCs.
Maybe split your suits up, max out your troop selection for additional scoring units.
Your lack of drones is troublesome, you are paying a premium for each wound in that army.
Thanks guys! I think the riptide with HBC should definitely take the talisman then.
The HBC Riptide with Earth Caste Pilot Array has been amazing for me in my practice games for Nova. It's AA capability is insane and against everything else it's basically a super assault cannon. I give it TLSMS too. I feel it synergizes best with the HBC's range and targets. With EWO+VT+ECPA+ToM, it's a lot of points but the thing just refuses to die. To the gentleman's point above; sure they have a terminator's saves but T6 is a huge difference. Lascannons are uncommon and plasma range is usually too short to enter my kill zone.
I take two IA+TLFB Riptides, also with EWO+VT to support him. Most people would call me crazy for spending points on VT on these two but a TL S8 AP1 Melta + the 3 S7 AP2 shots is plenty good AA. And for me, I take Eldar allies instead of Broadsides, so I don't have them to fall back on for AA. With the three Riptides, I've had zero problems eliminating fliers; if not on-arrival then during the subsequent shooting phase.
In sum, HBC+ECPA+EWO+VT is a gem.

As for drones; it's a trade off. Points are hard to find. Hopefully the smaller profile due to lack of drones will help their JSJ and hence survival.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, reminder of my list. Can we re-examine the crisis loadout? I do like Missile Pods for range and hence survivability but I'm tempted to use 1 squad of x2 Burst Cannons for some dakka to wipe that 20-kroot squad; thoughts? I mean 3 TL Pods/Plasma/Fusion are the same price...I just feel the Burst Canons give me something I don't really have.
