I know this could be purely subjective but I was wondering what is the general consensus on how many of each ship to pick up? I mainly want to be able to make decent, fun, and possibly thematic lists. I usually order through online sites and would prefer to make one large shipment to take advantage of free shipping.

So far I have the following:
Core Set x 2
X-Wing Expansion x 1
Tie Fighter Expansion x 1
Tie Advanced x 1
Y-Wing x 2

I notice that people are recommending 2 YT-1300s as they are that good. How about the Firespray? 1 or 2?
I don't really care about having duplicates of the various cards as I'm not going to be playing in tournaments.

I'm thinking of 4 Tie Interceptors and 2 A-Wings as well.

Now I know that the third wave stuff has not come out yet but what would you recommend?
2 B-Wings, 2 Tie Bombers, 1 Lambda Shuttle and 1 HWK-290?

Thanks!

one other question I would have for you is who do you generally play with? Do you play at a FLGS or do you play with friends? If friends do they have the game?

I generally try to have more stuff then I need so I can try to get a friend into the game. Give them a chance to play a few games without having to buy anything

ALL OF THEM EVER MADE! (In before Major Tom...)

I'm aiming for 2 of the smaller ships, except TIE Fighters want about 4-5. Have 1 Falcon and Slave, and think that's enough. Prefer the dogfighting aspect of numerous smaller ships personally.

Yes I'm the same! Collecting a load of stuff now and then will head down to the club to get people interested, for playing at home also.

At the moment just got 1 starter set (with another on the way), and a YT-1300 painted as a random smuggler's ship.

Would love to get a Y-wing and tie interceptor if I could find the damn things..

You've got a great start!
Me, I'm limiting myself to Wave #1 for right now... here's my collection:
2 Core Set
1 X-Wing Expansion
2 Y-Wing Expansion
3 TIE-A Expansion

I'm looking at picking up:
2 TIE Expansions
1 Millennium Falcon (cause, really... it's awesome)
B-Wing (because it's my longtime favorite ship)

Mostly, I play with my friends. My goal is to play 2x2, 100 points per player.

Ah yes, my mistake, that is in "MajorTom's" gallery? The stand even has those little tabs, neat.

Next I would have to print out the top bridge section of a Star Destroyer to scale (would be whole map most likely) for a "take out the shields" mission.

Yeah, it's Tom's I've been contemplating picking one up... I wouldn't paint it though mostly because I couldn't do it the type of justice that Tom has...

You need a mess of TIE fighters. Beyond that, get whatever you like playing.

I'm a sucker for TIE Interceptors myself, but that's just me. I want 4 so I can slap on some Blood Stripes and field a 'Flight' of the 181st.

I've only played with them once since I got them and that was when it first came out. But I am hoping mainly to play with friends; don't really have a FLGS close enough to play at.
My regular gaming group has broken up awhile ago so I'm the only one so far who has it. I'm hoping to play some more in the future.

That's basically what I'm going for; I figure that when I do get a chance to play, I can't rely on other people having it so I will probably have to field everything, which I don't really mind. But at the same time, I don't want to break the bank and go crazy buying 10 of everything.

Define 'a mess of'. Would five be enough? Or would I need more?
And also, I haven't played with the other units yet but I want to get everything all in one shot to save on shipping; don't want to find out later that I should get one more of a certain ship.

Okay, basically you can fit up to 8 TIEs in 100pt, meaning you outnumber all but corner-case rebel builds by at least 2:1. This is generally considered an intimidating list. After that, grabbing maybe 4-5 Interceptors allows you to play a more elite Squadron. Rebels, of course, like a good number of X-wings, as it is their workhorse (3 or 4, probably with 3 being a more "normal" number). Finally, the A-wing has one of the best Elite Talents in the Game (Push the Limit), so you might want to consider getting 2 or 3 of them. Other than that, most ships you only need one of, mostly just for variety (although, of course, some builds use more).
