This is very true, the ultimate theft protection system.
I feel like I go through dogs too quick and birds aren't affectionate enough.
The solution............Rhinos
Rhinos are very long lived. Similar to people.

If you want a big pet that takes up lots of land, just get a horse.
EDIT: If you already have a horse, get another horse.

I have had two Clydesdales in my life and for all intents and purposes this is a bigger, longer living Clydesdale.
If the Clydesdale decides it doesn't like you (more chance than the rhino under the circumstances I described) It will off you the same way the Rhino will.

It seems about as appealing as owning a pet cow.

If i had the room and cash i'd do it. For those of you who are afraid of them i understand that. But at the same time i have 3 horses each at over a thousand pound. I've been kicked in the calf when one was spooked and thrown while training them. I guess its up to what you feel safe doing and the risks you are willing to take.

A pet cow is pretty common among farmers...
It's not a dangerous animal under the mentioned circumstances. Situations where perceived "domesticated" animals attack their trainers are fairly rare, and they almost always involve a naturally aggressive animal like a big cat or a bear. The rhino described in the OP actually is domesticated. Automatically Appended Next Post: Rotary wrote:If i had the room and cash i'd do it. For those of you who are afraid of them i understand that. Exactly, its basically a really big horse that doesn't give rides.

I can't give you a reason, I'm sorry. Most people find their own reasons, but they're all subjective.
We don't have another sapient species next door to compare ourselves too, so the question is a mute point.

White Rhinos aren't threatened at all. They are currently at "Not threatened". They number in at roughly 21,000 currently.
Considering it's a two ton-four ton animal that eats 100's of pounds of food daily & produces just as much waste, those are fine numbers.

Pretty sure the words Near Threatened are not intended to imply the animal no longer needs protection.
Near Threatened species evaluated from 2001 onwards may also be ones which are dependent on conservation efforts to prevent their becoming threatened, whereas prior to this Conservation Dependent species were given a separate category.

So keeping a single male White rhino, raising it in luxury and happiness, and giving it similar amounts of attention good people give their kids is comparable to hunting the species to extinction.
Yeah good comparison, there buddy. Really accurate.
Around 10000 people would have the funds, land, time, patience and interests to do this world wide.
This is already legal, so that's not the point

It's not about being afraid of it hurting you. It's just... why? Why do you want a rhino? Are you just enthusiastic about them? Is this something that you will put a lot of money and effort into only for the novelty of "I own a rhino" to wear off? I didn't say that a horse couldn't hurt you.

This was primarily a theoretical question. A rhino would basically be a really big Clydesdale which I have experience with.
This is the kind of animal that would be neccasary to give at least a good 5 hours attention daily.
I can't tell you why I'd consider this, I just like the animal and have the money and time.
