so im trying to make a tactical squad with a scout/recon/stealth theme, so I was wondering what people think I can do to a spacemarine to make it more scout-ish? so far ive added a scope and am going to add a silencer.
[Thumb - DSCF3039[1].JPG]
i already have a normal tactical squad so i decided that my secont would be scout/recon themed.

How does this count as Scout-themed? They look like normal tactical marines to me.

Nowhere in the first post have you mentioned what you're gonna do with them or that they're WiP. People are going to get confused. It also doesn't look like his head is ducking, nor is a ducking head make a marine scout-like.

ummm, ok....
the purpose of this thread is for people to tell me how I can make the second pic more scout like....
the first pic is there for general criticism.

Yeah, I'm with Heartserenade on this one... how does tilting the head down slightly make him "scout-like" (whatever that means)? You also didn't really ask for any tips nor make any indication that these were WIP models. I don't really understand what you are trying to do, make a space marine scout army, a special-ops themed army, or a non-Forge World Heresy army? They are all completely different things: if you are going for a scout army, use scouts. If you are going for a spec-ops themed army, use lots of packs and specialized weapons. If you are trying to make a Heresy-era army using only the plastic kits, good luck. You have to find MK II through MK VI (mainly MK IV, V, & VI) and they are hard, if not impossible, to build with only the standard plastic kit. You might be able to find some cheaper alternatives from some third party suppliers (Anvil Industries and Maximini have some good stuff). As the model stands now, it just looks like a regular plastic tactical marine holding two guns.

Scooty has already mentioned anvil industry. They have a line of "black-ops" marines that might be what you are looking for. And if you don't want to buy them they will still be a big source of inspiration. Just look at the pictures each product has on its page.

If you want to get the advance recon team feel, make sure you make use of all the ammo packs and extra bits in the tactical box, as they really add something to marines of this kind. You could also make them more rugged with painting, using heavy weathering on the armour.

I would also recommend the Anvil parts mentioned above, they are great models and seem to be exaclly what you're looking for.

Much better. He looks like he's going to spend a long time alone in the field, just like a recon team.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

il put up more pics on Saturday.
thanks. my entire army is based on the theme of using everything available, as over half the chapter defected to chaos, leaving the remaining loyalists with the shirts on their backs (or the power armour on their backs?lol)

Shame you haven't got some legs that make him look as if he is walking/running, combined with a more dynamic upper torso pose, like looking down the scope of the gun in the direction the marine is meant to be walking.

Start with getting the pose right, then worry about the accessories.

thanks for the advise (I hate saying that because when I read it, it sounds sarcastic( in my head?))
I cant figure out how to make the marine look like he is looking down the scope, I used all of my "motion" legs on my death company and destroyer squad

What also looks really cool is if you glue a kombat knife between backpack and torso so that only the handle points upwards. Or glue a knife sideways on the back of his belt with similar effect.
You can see what i mean with a knife on the belt on this scene i converted. (He even pulls it from its sheath.

The looking down the scope pose can only be archived with reposing the arms. You have to cut at his right wrist and reattach the hand so that it is in line with the lower arm or üpoints slightly downwards and a bit more twisted. Then you can glue the arm to the torso a little bit higher. And you also have to repose the wirst and shoulder of the left arm as well. so that he can properly hold the weapon You will have to close the gaps with GS.
This tutorial will show you how it should work: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173333-modelling-reposition-arms-to-aim-bolters/

You need to adjust the arms so the arms are higher, then move the head in the direction the gun is face, it won't be straight down the scope granted but will look as if it is from a distance.

Like this guy

With a bit of manipulating and a bit of cutting and a little bit of green stuff I'm sure you can get that scope lined up with the guys eye, if if the gun is at an angle.

Ah, they look pretty cool and Scout like, with plenty of supplies and ammo to go around. Now the painting can also help, with some camo or very dirty to symbolize a long time in the field.

I like the sergeant too, he looks like he's about to do an upward slash against an enemy right in front of him; He's the most dynamic looking one of the squad but I admit I didn't understand what he was doing at first. Is the hand sawed? I see a big gap. You probably need to greenstuff a bit.

Nevertheless, they look much more "scout-like" now, keep it up

thankyou. with the sarg.'s hand, I had to cut it to make the knife fit, I will fill it with glue or greenstuff when I get to the point of undercoating

Buying some cheap netting from a craft store would be a great way to top them off after you paint them.

might I ask in what way?
btw, I plan on painting them as thoe they have been in the field without support, its going to be hard, I generally paint very cleanly.

I se, cool idea, but no its a little out of place in my army as my marines are base in a rocky area.

In that case, buy a cheap mesh like rag from a local store, cut pieces to fit, glue em on, and paint them to fit the terrain your marines are fighting in. If it's grey and rocky, do a grey camo scgeme, if it's desert, copy a ww2 or modern day desert scheme, things like that.

One or two you could have draped over the head as well, if you build it up a little more on the shoulder it might give the impression they're ducking their heads down a little. Just a suggestion.

I don't want to make any radical changes to the model e.g I want helmet and gun visible.
also, im going to get the dev squad for the crouching legs and las-cannon.
