I just completed the first round of a campaign playing Night Lords and I'll be honest, I'm pretty pumped. I was set up against a Blood Angels army, to fight on a mountaintop. The Campaign Manager decided that as part of a terror based drop landing, raptors were troops as long as the Lord/Sorceror was equipped with a jump pack. I know the Night Lords are not the raptor chapter, but for an army that is based on terror tactics it is hard to believe that there would be a shortage of assault troops. I'll be honest, for a 15 pt piece of wargear this is a bit much but I like the direction it is going. My proposal would be to take something like an Ork Warboss making a Nob squad a troop, but only one, and apply that to the raptors of the Night Lords. Now I wouldn't complain if we threw Fear USR at the standard band or gave us the ability to run AND snapfire but I feel that this is an important step to return the recognizable image of the Night Lords to the tabletop. That and players need to cut the wings of their helmets. Keep the shoulder pads and drop the helmets. Thoughts?

Maybe something along those lines will be in a supplement one day.

It isn't necessarily overpowered to have raptors made troops. They would run into the issues that blood angel assault armies encounter. MEQ with jump packs are still quite pricey and rely heavily on cover/LoS.

I always think of Night Lords as fatalistic non believing renegade marines. I buy into the fluff that they dont worship chaos, but they hate the emperor for judging them and their primarch. Many of them see the future and they basically do what they want. Super humans completely free from any sort of obgligation, duty, morals or limits. They take what they want, when they want, how they want it.

As for Raptors being troops, it would be cool if someone had it and it would make sense for it to be Night Lords but I am still unsure. Jump Packs were rare in 30k (supposedly)

I just want them to be interesting again. Ever since GW put the stupid bat wings on their head (does anyone know where this came from?) they have been the laughing stock of the chaos legions. It would be nice to have a supplement, but if rumors are correct and the most generic of the legions will be getting it first I'm not sure what to expect.

Does a warboss...not already make a squad of nobz troops?

Otherwise raptor troops are awesome!

In ADB's Night Lords trilogy, we were told that the Bat-helmets were ceremonial, so it's not like it's a big problem now that its been explained.

You can just leave them out if you want to and still be 100% true to the fluff.

Also OP, the Night Lords are the only legion that have any real affinity to Raptors. If any legion is "the raptors army" it's gotta be them!

They also love fear (Which GW kindly remembered by giving Raptors the fear rule), which again ties in with Raptors being the Night Lords "thing".

Your idea of having Raptors as troops is awesome too, I'd love the idea of having a bunch of small Raptor squads zipping about the battlefield causing trouble! Heck, even the competitive players might take them since they could field their three heldrakes alongside a load of raptors!

I am %110 for this. You should also get a rule where every unit causes terror.

I've sold so many armies. :(

Yeah I really hope that we get a Suppliment. 5th ed made me Black Legion most of my army, but have started NightLording it since then.

My undercoated Raptors are definitely getting the Night Lords colour scheme. Really fun to paint, if a bit more difficult than BL

This sounds awesome. I was never a big fan of much of the CSM lore, but that seems pretty cool actually. It seems hard to run them with the CSM codex with that fluff though. I'm sure it could be done though.

What he meant was that instead of how a space marine captain on a bike makes all biker squads troops, a warboss only makes one unit a troop choice. The rule the campaign gave him allowed all of his raptor units to be troops. He was just expressing that he liked the rule but thought that it would still be fair if only one squad was a chosen troop choice.
