not only many, but they will be manly. the khorne berserkers of the ultramarines. so many power weapons the younger hobbyist who has a more limited access to bitz, will go blind from envy.

So, finished my vanguard veterans (building them). Don't even wana think about what the points cost will be to field them. the guy in tha back with the magnetised arms is another spare assault sargeant who I decided needs to join the vannies. the dude at the front is the new captain. Needs a new name. Maybe Hitler von Killingshtein? Or Facebray Ker? anyway, open to sugestions the rest of my assault elements chaplain has magnetised pfist/boltpisel. Also got a shot of the "my fist, go where it is pointing" marine More soon Dakka!!!! Let me know what you want close pics of. I can't realy post every individual dude ;D

Those vanguard vets look pretty impressive. On the bright side, they did go down in points this time around, although that's a gratuitous amount of powered weaponry

I've got a box of VV I still can't figure out how to build. Part of me (the gamer) says "just enough gear to get the job done, keep the points down". The other side (the modeler) says "Give them ALL the cool toys!"
I can see which little voice you listened to, and they do indead look cool with all the gear.

Those are interesting to say the least! Looks like they've survived (more or less) some kind of heck, and they're still (more or less) kicking. Especially the guy missing his forearm.

Weathering powder always looked like it washes out blue and metalics. over a more subdued tone though (like black ) it looks better, but thats just me. Thanks for the compliments.

While I think you've done a good job running those poor marines trough the grinder, I have to say I prefer your cleaner, pre/early battle work, rather then the "I survived a pie-plate" weathered marines.
It might be because after that much wear, they no longer look like Ultramarines. They could just as easily be Crimson Fists, following Pedro Kantor after the disaster on Rynn's World. So for me, personally, they loose the bonus points for "Hey look, someone else painting Ultramarines" and just get the normal "Nice looking marines"
Not that Ultras can't get stuck in and dirty, but at that level, the weathering overpowers the underlying paintjob and chapter identity. I think it might be fun if you were basing your army around one of the big battles (like Armageddon) and paint your marines as a mix of chapters, all weathered up like that. "After months of conflict, original chapters and allegiances were replaced; Mud and scars replaced heraldry, and they all belonged equally to The War"

Thanks nev. I was just really doing this as an experiment, with a unit I have had since I started, but never realy finished painting, since since I started my style has gone through a few renovations. I'm not even sure what this unit will do on the table, tbh. Anyway, clean marines will be back soon!

Uff, good thing too. I really dislike the heavy damaged / chipped / dirty, but each to it's own. I'm glad "PWETTY MARINES" are going to return

If you wanted to use a counts-as allied chapter, you could use the weathered ones to represent them. Nobody is going to mix them up with your primary detachment.
From a fluff standpoint, they were holding off the enemy, waiting for reinforcements. And getting the tar beat out of them while they waited.
