So, this is coming from a person who is considering starting a CSM/Chaos army but doesn't yet own the codex. Therefore, I might be getting something wrong. However, assuming I'm not, would a Nurgle Marine/Herald of Nurgle deathstar be as effective as it sounds? Gaining Shrouded, a fairly awesome soldier, and access to Biomancy (namely enfeeble or Endurance for nearby units who don't already have Feel No Pain.) Other than the hefty price tag, is there a downside to having a unit which will almost always have 2+ cover, 3+ armor, T5, Feel No Pain, and 12 Wounds? I can't see anyone ever shifting this off of an objective.

A Herald of Nurgle cannot join with plague marines because of the Demonic Instability rule.

I thought since they were Nurgle Marines than a demon of Nurgle could join them. Doesn't instability only apply if you are of a different alignment?

No, that is not how instability works at all.

A model with Demonic Instability may only join other units with Demonic Instability. In short, a model or unit from the Demons Codex can only ever join other models and units from the Demons Codex. There are additional restrictions based on chaos marks on what units they can then join.
