I recently got access to a 3d printer at work so I took the opportunity to make a computer model and 3d print of an aegis defense line. The computer model turned out pretty good.
Today I ran the 3d print run. I printed out one long section (seen in the background of the photo) and one shorter segment. It looks a bit strange in the photo because clear plastic was loaded n the printer and there is some weird colored LED lights in the printer. I think it came out decent. I will try painting it up this weekend and post up some pics of it painted.
With an Orc behind for scale.

We have the same printer I look forward to seeing how this turns out for obvious reasons. There are some really good similar bits of terrain on thingiverse that I'm eager to try out at some point as well.

I have seen the stuff on thingaverse too. I decided to try my own model first. I need an ADL for my army anyhow.

All done painting up the 3d printed ADL models.
I think they came out reasonable. They are a bit long because I was working from bad dimensions. I have a better set of dimensions for my revised attempts (yes I will continue making these).
For my additional thoughts on this process see this thread ( pg 8):

No. If I printed 4 short and 4 long sections it would be about $8.00 worth of plastic. If I printed a cannon it would probably be another $1.25. ( I have not modeled it yet.). That beats $35 or $40 that the GW model costs.

Personally I'd lose the rather blobby aquilla icon - other than that, these look pretty good. Do they have any detail on the reverse side?

I have revised the design since this version. The Aquila has more detail and the back side has all of the details too.

Damn that looks slick, and the price certainly seems right. Wish I could get my hands on some of that sweet 3D printing action!

Tangential, but : the next- gen of 3d printing is stereolithography machines. A company called Formlabs is shipping units this year. Still pricey at about $3000 a pop, but of course that'll come down over the next few years.

The stereolithography machines beat the pants off the plastic depositor types (Makerbot, etc). You just know GW is busy implanting gene-seed in an army of transhuman lawyers in preparation for the coming printing apocalypse.

$35.75 here in Canada. Of course, that comes WITH the gun ..
I would love to get a hold of a few cheap ADL's, with or without Quadguns. These look nice.

Make a Chaos one, especially four dedicated to the Ruinous Powers, and you'd be printing money.
Make chaos star and four power add-on bits you can add to vehicles and you's also be printing money,
Make like boils and sores for Nurgle, Slaanesh shields, heads and shoulder pads like the Bedlam Fraternity stuff, make Nurgle torsos and legs, etc and you'd be printing money.
I wonder how long it'll take before this stuff goes mainstream.

These are sweet, but yeah, the real triumph would be making Chaos/Eldar/Tau/Tyranid versions with the same dimensions, and an affordable price.

I planned on making ones for other races. I just wanted to get the dimensions right first and get a feel for how much detail could be put into the model. As well as how much material was used. I have began work on an Ork one but that is it so far. I have become distracted printing other things like thunderfire cannons, and weapon mounts for a rhino.

Unfortunately it lacks some of the details of the geedubs adl, especialy the wires and coms that give it a very 40k ish feel (they sold me on the model) . do you plan on making the eagle a little more dimensional/ detailed?

They seem very simplistic and kind of rough, but for a third the price they're fine.
