Vitriol? Naah, this is a great turn of events! If the whole rumor about there being a 28mm version of Inquisitor coming out is true, this will be perfect terrain for small-unit scenarios. Top of the throne? Khornate cult leader. Swirly-death-tornado thing? Definitely a Tezeentchian warp manifestation. The staircase and main building would make good cover and the portal is where your Cult leader stands while directing his minions to kill your team of relatively heroic Imperial agents.
If there's more deals like this in the near future, I say bring it on.

Ordered.
I wanted all these but price was a bit higher than I was willing to spend. Some added variety to tourney tables is a good thing, once I get around to painting them.
WFB =! bad rules ergo liquidate stuff. 100 person tourneys full up with paid people in 3 days in the midwest. Like for an event in podunk Wisconsin, in the last week in January. WFB is doing just fine. maybe not as great as 40k, but I bet it's profitable. The WFB secneray lines, on the other hand I doubt.

Another package deal slipped by unnoticed by many as well. There are 3-packs of bikes for $40 at GW, $5 discount. Maybe things are.looking up?

That's more of a squad box, as opposed to a limited time sale of separately packaged boxes.
This is a real huge difference to that. The only thing this is sort of comparable from GW in the last several years is the Christmas army boxes.
Even then, nothing like this has happened for a very long time indeed.

I agree with the earlier poster - they are likely just clearing some space (they'll need it for Space Marine stuff I'm sure) by getting rid of stuff that didn't sell well.
Here's hoping it becomes a trend, but I wouldn't get too excited. And it's only a slightly better deal than buying all of them separately at 25% off from a 3rd party (in fact, likely less than that if you have a GW in your state and have to pay sales tax on your order).

Yep, I'm in shock. After all those "one click bundles" where you get ZERO discount for buying a $1.000 set of models, and now "oh look, have 25% off." But then again, yeah, it's not far off from 3rd party store prices.
Still, it's interesting that they choose the discount route. I would have thought they rather scrap all that plastic than discount anything.

I am not necessarily endorsing or celebrating negativity here, but the reason that GW generates such "sarcasm and vitriol" is that they treat their customers like garbage, in a million ways. If they didn't, then people would give them the benefit of the doubt (and a small minority still do). But most reasonable fans stopped giving them the benefit of the doubt years ago, long after they even deserved it.

Clearing stuff or not, this is a noticeable deal on GW's part and should be applauded, not criticized. They make bad decisions, we call them on it. Lets give them credit where it's due, eh? Maybe it's a sign of things to come.

IMO, this is actually a very smart move on GW's behalf if they started having a price drop on niche products 2 years after launch. When these were released, they were 'needed' for storms of magic. Now, they're just random terrain. Demand is down so drop the price to move more volume.
Hopefully it's not a one-shot deal.

I think I'm that jaded at GW's pricing that when I seen this I immediately called "misprint".
Hopefully I'm wrong and GW is learning that package deals are good and that they're not a dirty word. Time will tell...

CaptainLoken wrote:Not too long ago on BOLS, there was a corporate stratigist that reviewed GW's business model. He was saying that at some point in the future, GW would raise their prices to the point that they destroyed all of their Good Will, and people would stop buying. It would be at this point that we would see the old "package deals" return, where you would get discounts when you made large purchases.
Now, I'm not saying that this is why this deal is available. It may be that Fantasy is just so under performing, that they are trying to get ride of stock. But, it would be nice if this was the beginning of that trend...
You don't need to be a corporate strategist to understand that GW is losing goodwill from its customers on a daily basis...anyone with the most rudimentary grasp of economics, or even just an average consumer, could deduce that this would happen.
Here's to hoping that we're about to reach a tipping point. If WHFB is at that point then I imagine it wouldn't take very long for 40k to get there as well.

Looks like $83 for $115.50 of terrain. Not too bad, but also not *that* much less than going through an online discounter (saves you around $9 assuming a 20% discount.)

decker_cky wrote:hands_miranda wrote:Not super surprising. I've noticed a few things have gone down in price, like the much maligned finecast Ushabti-- more expensive kit, but less per figure.
Also, GW has done bundle deals for some units. Tau Crisis suits are 12% off if you buy them as a squad versus individually. And there were a few bundles when the Eldar book came out that saved cash for artillery, war walkers, and jetbikes for similar amounts. I know the normal thing is to knock on GW for just raising costs through the roof, but there are a few cases where it's not true. I just hope that it's not an experiment that is abandoned, like the non-iBook digital army books apparently have been.
GW's bundles for the last year or so have been almost all only a dollar or so off of the individual cost. Some were occasionally a dollar or two more depending on the country. To go back with a multiple kit bundle for a significant saving is a big change IMO.
Incorrect. The bundles of 3 eldar platforms & jetbikes were ~10% cheaper then buying 2 individual ones. The war walkers were priced like Crisis suits. Hell, the Crisis Suits are still available from GW in this manner. You save almost $10 by buying the three pack-- check out the link if you don't believe me http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat440288a&rootCatGameStyle=wh40k Automatically Appended Next Post: Schmapdi wrote:I agree with the earlier poster - they are likely just clearing some space (they'll need it for Space Marine stuff I'm sure) by getting rid of stuff that didn't sell well.

Uh... you're supposed to pay tax regardless of if it's collected for the sale or not. There's a box on your income tax form for it, and it's taxed at the same rate as sales tax. You can be a scoff-law and not pay it, but it is owed to the state.

Interesting....
Most likely they just want to clear out some overstock, but even so... actually having a sale is a good sign.
Might be fun scenery for RPGs.

Well yeah, 'smart move', aka what normal businesses do GW products are perfect 'impulse/extra buy' stuff because there's always room for more, so selling discounted bundles would suit them well. Everyone always jumps on the Xmas bundles, which is a pretty good indication that they should make more of those.

No idea about casting/moulds etc but can GW "smelt" down old plastics and reuse them? Interesting if possible.
