The guy who runs my hobby store told me that Erebus is dead. Apparently he pissed Angron off in the Novel 'Betrayer'

Any clarification?

According to the wiki he is alive and ruling the Dark Council in Siracius.

In case anyone hasn't read Vulcan Lives.
Spoiler:
He's still alive in Vulcan Lives.

Betrayer is heresy/30k too. The point of my post was to show that he was alive *after* the novel betrayer.

It would be cool if they ever do a Word Bearers supplement with Erebus and Kor Phaeron as new characters, but more than likely we will be stuck with the generic Dark Apostle from the codex.

He was very much alive in the Dark disciple trilogy.

What is this nonsense?

Spoiler:
Erebus pissed off Kharn in Betrayer, because Erebus killed Argel Tal, whose positive influence (ironic for the first ever possessed guy) would have kept Kharn from becoming the Betrayer. Kharn opened a can of whoop-ass on Erebus (who is apparently a top tier badass combatant), but Erebus bamfed to safety with his magic knife.

I don't remember Angron interacting much at all with Erebus, he barely gave Lorgar the time of day, much less one of his silver-tongued priests
.

The closest he has come to death is when Horus peeled his face like a banana.

Either that or the Gods don't want him.

Thinking on that, I guess though he's one of their biggest community drivers, a big Daemon Prince, although scary, wouldn't quite have the same impact as some normal dude who is 10k years old and know's a thing or two.

Convert to Chaos through fear or because a dude who is pretty much like you promises you power, like what he has.

In The Soul's Gate short story linked to in this thread, he insinuates that he hasn't ascended to daemon princedom because "he is but a humble servant", and that he's paving a way forward that even a daemon prince like Lorgar might follow.

It's likely similar to the reason why Abaddon hasn't ascended yet. These servants still have jobs to do. If anything, for all his evil bastardity, Erebus seems to be very altruistic and self-less (far as we know), caring more about the goals of his gods than his own ascendancy.

Eerebus being dead would be a helluva retcon by GW considering he appears in the 13th Black Crusade and in the Word Bearers Novel series.

He's alive, but even as a Word Bearer player this annoys me, I loved him before certain events that have been mentioned above occurred.

No just a coward.

I am more interested if;
Spoiler:
Argel Tal is really dead? would be nice if the chaos powers would turn Argel Tal/Raum into a demon prince, just to be a thorn in Erebus's side

Spoiler:
Yea, I thought Argel Tal was supposed to die at the Siege of Terra, not earlier. Maybe he comes back to life or is revealed to not be dead or something.

That was typical Chaos misdirection, he died in the shadow of an aquila, which he assumed meant Terra. Raum is banished and AT is dead. Lorgar was upset enough to sick Kharn on Erebus.
