Subject: Skrall vs The Imperium of Mankind; Freehand banner work and refrence sheets
A little background before i begin the log, for the past two year's i've been struggling to find any kind of viable employment. Though i've been able to make ends meet working in a local supermarket it's not what i want to do with my life. Recently i've managed to sell several of my older armies and models on ebay for a descent figure, and realized i could probably make a descent pocket money building and painting armies. Since i have got a descent ability to build and paint models at quite a fast turn around (on average 3 hours for a 10 man unit) i'll be opening myself up to commissions should anyone desire to hire me to get a force put together quite quickly at a reasonable price. I've had a facebook page set up for a while with general hobby stuffs, including the Nurgle Fantasy army i recently sold. Nerd By Design if anyone is curious. Now for the projects to begin;
Project Deathwing
Project 1; Deathwing.
I've decided to start with a smaller elite force for my first built to sell army. I've acquired the models for the basics of the force, though having returned from vacation yesterday i have only had time to build the basics of the army. I've also managed to find a damaged metal librarian in one of my old bits box's from when they were first released, which is part of the renewal.
The army plan;
Belial
Terminator Librarian
4 x 5 man units of Deathwing terminators with various weapons,
5 man unit of Deathwing Knights
Forgeworld dark angels dreadnought
Since i returned from vacation at 11pm last night, all i've had time do is build and make basic modifications for the force. The picture;
I should hopefully have the first finished units painted by the weeks end, before then i've got some mold lines to trim, bolters to drill and some greenstuff details/robes to put together. Until then, thanks for looking!

Since i've come acropper with a broken airbrush, and having no spare/ability to replace it for at least two weeks, i've been forced to go back to brush work. The upside is, painting decals and highlights is a far easier task. So, a photo of progress thus far;
Things to do;
Stripping; The two speeders and several of the terminators require additional stripping (Note the speeders aren't part of the army, but i will be using them in a game and i figured why not show them off here with my dark angels).
Painting; Everything.
Basing; All the new bases have been ordered, as well as the new flock for the theme.
Modelling; Several barrels to drill and i have a large amount of green stuff work to do on several of the Terminators, the Librarian and Belial.
I've painted up a test model, note i am changing the base design when the new ones arrive, and much of the detail work such as highlighting on the decals and purity seals are incomplete, but i wanted to get a feedback on the atmosphere of the model.
Until the next update,

creativehivemind wrote: I love the wear and tear. It will have my preference over factory-fresh armour any day. An excellent paintjob and choice of style altogether!
Ravenwing support squadron, 2 landspeeders, additional heavy bolters
120pts
Total
1497pts
Current things to do:
-Drill the few bolters left in the two squads of termies not yet completed
-Wait for GS to fully cure so i can take a knife to it and tone down the hooded characters
-Spend a little more time working on belial
-Paint the librarian (see blue terminator model in the back of shot)
-Write a solid army list any potential buyer for the army could use as a complete package deal.
I should have an update in a few days, including the freehand banners i am currently researching and designing and perhaps a finished squad.
Until next time,

i've had a bit more time to bash away at the project since trying out the army on Monday (it won 6:4 against tyranids on victory points), and i've discovered i love bikes. I think once this project is off the table and sold i'll be doing a white scars force...
As for the army, 3 unit's are now at the 95% stage of completion. At this point i like to take a week or more away from the unit and bring up the quality. In this case, it'll be when i've complete Bel's and the other 3 units so the whole army is at the same level.
Here's the army photo so far;
and a few photo's of them. Note, The librarian is playing merry hell with my camera and either it won't focus, or it takes a photo that makes the scheme look like it was done by a 12 year old with one tone and a wash... i might need to try a white box instead of black/greens.
Things to do;
- All the banner poles are cut to size, i just need to design seven personal heraldry for the army.
- Complete the base coats and washes on the last 3 units
- Finished Belials conversion work
until the next update

It's time for the next update. Before i start with the miniatures i'm going to a bit of a write up on banners and heraldry.
it's been a while since i've done any freehand banenr work, but for this project i felt like a must. I thought about it for a while, and decided i wanted to avoid the usual images associated with the angels. So... how do you replace churches and Death? With lion! I looked around for some good semi-medieval refrence images but most where either too abstract or too modern for my purposes. As a result i went of actual lions and some peices that did fit, this is the refrence sheet i've put together should anyone care to do a similar task;
Now for the models. The librarian is feeling more photogenic today and the banner on the dread is finally pinned into place.
What are peoples thoughts?
