So I'm building my Battle Company, and I'm wanting to sub one of the tactical squads for a bike squad (because while the Apoc rulebook doesn't want me to, the fluff does, so there!).

I'm not really in love with the old school SM bike kits, particularly when you consider that I'd have to purchase a separate upgrade kit and what not just to make a sergeant and a few heavy weapons guys.

So has anyone else used the DA bike kits (black knights, command squad) to make regular SM bikers? Or is there to much work to be done to get rid of icons that are on the bikes?

Go with the raven wing battalion its got all the parts to do everything you want. The black night kit is cool but takes way too much modification to make the bikes into reg sm.

Does the battleforce come with all of the regular SM bike stuff + some ravenwing upgrade sprues?

Yes.

The Dark Angels bike sets are standard bikes with Ravenwing add-ons, the most distinctive of which are the feathered gun shields. If you want to get a lot of bikes and such for a reasonable deal, the Ravenwing box may be the way to go. You'll end up with a lot of extra bits. Check GW's site for the pics of the sprues.

That's fine by me. I appreciate the info guys. My hobby budget is tight so I can't afford to spend money on extra stuff I don't need, like 3 boxes of three bikes + the squad upgrade pack! I can always use a Land Speeder. Maybe someone will need the RW bits when I'm done making the regular bikes!

Yep, you could always sell those on the interwebs, or your local area.

Quite a few of the bits are not DA-specific, like large purity seals, power swords, among other. You can probably make some money back selling off the remains of the RW parts.

yeah, just looked it up and if you were to buy 6 bikes, one attack bike, one landspeeder and one bike squad upgrade pack it would come to $147.25.

Or I could spend $88 and get the RW Battleforce from my FLGS and have spare parts to trade or sell when I'm done.

What would I do without you guys?

I know you said money is tight..... but a great alternative is the FW outrider bikes. They just look so sleek and they have zero chapter specific insignia on them so no clean up is required.
