I havnt used drop pods in my local meta yet, just against a couple friends. My question to those of you who have used drop pods or have faced them: Have you had drop pods been shot at once they land? Also, do they get shot at more or less in point games? Just wondering if I should rely on them to draw fire away from my troops or not, and if I need to worry about them in point games or not.

Thanks in advance!

P.S, sorry for all the questions today, I am really sick and bed-ridden. Got my laptop and my codex and just laying here watching comedy central

In the kill points game, drop pods are an easy kill with AV 12 open topped. Also, the other day, I shot one with the hope that I took a model or two out with the explosion.

They will never really be enough of a threat to attract a lot of fire. Space marines don't have the deathwind drop pods... yet. They are a rhino that doesn't move, so if you get shot by one, it's your fault.

I usually shoot at them if there's nothing better to shoot at. Goes for sticking melta bombs on as well, if I happen to be near it and want it to go away i'll kill them. Otherwise I'll generally ignore them

This - not only is it an easy kill-point, but a proper drop-pod list will be giving away a few points in this way. Watch out for Interceptor too, as that can mean losing a First Blood point that is otherwise usually yours for the taking on arrival.

Under other circumstances, they're usually ignored in favour of other targets but if there are none around in range, they'll get shot at. It's become something of a hollow victory locally to take these out from frustration of a unit not being able to do much else.

I have a drop pod salamander army and in kill point games it can lose you the game very easily, However that being said I think drop pods are amazing they get your troops to pretty much were you want almost every time.

I tend to drop three into my opponents deployment zone with dreads in on turn 1 giving your opponent six targets to worry about with line breaker and a very good chance to get first blood.
After that they sit there taking pot shots at week units don't forget most armour have rear armour 10 and with storm bolters you can glance almost anything to death given time coursing your opponent to spend time moving his vulnerable units away.
Shure you could get shot out of the sky with sky fire or have them taken out for kill points, but on the whole I think they rock.

Dreads are vehicles, they cannot claim linebreaker. Please tell me I haven't been playing this wrong....

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

I think you have. From memory, doesn't Linebreaker work on units, and have further distinction that immobilised doesn't score it?
(edit) My mistake - it's scoring or denial units. So vehicles only count if they're in the relevant slot for The Scouring or Big Guns Never Tire.

Um Space Marines do have Death Storm drop pods. But they have been heavily nerfed from their original stats almost to the point of uselessness.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

dont think ive ever shot at them unless it was all i could shoot at. Even in a killpoint game because what they dumped out is a bit more dangerous.

That was my experience in my games with friends. But of course never used them in a tourney.

That's all my Vengence Gun Emplacements ever shoot at!!!

Last game 2 drop pods come in right in front of my Battle Cannon Vengence Gun and the Space Wolves hop out the other side to shoot at my Lootas and Lobbas. Gun take off about a hull point per turn. Finally my boyz charge his Grey Hunters and the GH's get caught between his DP and a Building but still locked in combat. My Gun targets his DP being careful not to hit any GH's of course. Well it scatters perfectly onto his bunched up Grey Hunters hitting 7 or 9 but only killing 3 or 4 due to Cover saves.

So short story long, they're good for that reason.

Played against a DA opponent last weekend. He ran a Death Storm pod with multiple assault cannons at BS4. If that's nerfed, it must have been pretty awesome before!

Yeah,

i shoot at them often.. when there is nothing better to shoot at... Once had a lucky strike in 5th.. boomgun large blast scattered in such a way it took out a whole tactical squad of 10 just like that...

Otherwise,.. if marines are hiding behind it,.. try to make it go boom and get some explosion hits on those marines... and next turn you will have LOS

The old rules had them get drop pod assault, but it hit all units within 24" upon landing. I forget how many shots the assault cannon one got but it was a butt load more than they normally get. The launchers for example I think hit 1d3 shots at each unit(friend or foe). They cleared the LZ which was their purpose before the loaded drop pods land. After the initial landing the got reduced shots and I think they got to pick their targets.

Pods also get shot at if they're blocking LOS, in addition to the situations stated above.

I get alot of pods blocking LOS from smart players, that being said, when im running an IG gunline i shoot them often. Ive had numerous occasions where an unattended drop pod has whittled down my squads and been a huge nuisance. In my last game I had 2 pods with death company, blender dreads and deep striking terminators. I had some melta guys where out of range and LOS from everyone else at the time,so they blasted the pod. The explosion took out 2 terminators. It was a rare magical thing that game.
