Who is your favourite single being in 40k and why? Mine is probably Boss snikrot or the mighty tank that is Phosis T'kar. Snikrot because I just love his ninja super skills and how he rebels against the ork stereotype and Phosis T'kar because he is so unbelievably powerful, I mean he blocked a phantom Titan shot with his mind! He also ripped apart an entire squadron of custode jetbikes, bludgeoned his way through Russ' entire elite bodyguard and was about to kill Valdor. The only way his rampage was ended was when he allowed himself to be killed.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

There are a few that spring to mind for different reasons.
For sheer badassery, it's hard to beat Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken.
For cool backstory, Lysander or Yarrik.
For the model, Astorath or The Sanguinor.

That's a good question, never really thought of it before...
At the moment, I'll have to give it to Canoness-Errant Setheno, who was a very pleasant surprise for me, basically stealing the spotlight in what I thought was a mostly-Marines book and going on to have three crowning moments of awesome. Her extreme cold-bloodedness was also very interesting, and a contrast to the usual stereotype of the furious, angry Sister.
But Ciaphas Cain is a close second. That bit in his first book where he runs away screaming in terorr, but the guardsmen mistake it for a heroic battle cry made me laugh so damn hard. And there's also this gem:
"Then the prophet spoke: saying 'Frak this, for my faith is a shield proof against your blandishments!'"

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Trazyn the Infinite, because he will destroy a planet to add to his collection, and because his rules are hilarious. Kill him? He just stood back up. He fails to stand back up? He just took over another body. He kills one of your boyz? The rest of them suffer a wound on a 4+. Also, his unit is scoring.
My second favorite is Cypher, because using 2 pistols is just better.

Imperium wise probably Malcador, I always found him in his enigmatic advisor position to contrast very well with the barely restrained power of the primarchs as despite this distance in raw might he, like the custodes, is able to stand closer to the Emperor than most of them bar Horus. It was a shame the Sigillite audio book never ended up revealing more of his past, I thought it would be nice to see some of his past history with the Emperor and how he came to obtain so many ancient artefacts. Also the fact that he's the first Grandmaster of Assassins is pretty badass.
Ork-wise I'd have to go with Tuska da Daemon-Killa for sheer awesomeness since he's one of the few who managed to deal some serious damage with his WAAAGH! in the eye of terror while the Abyssal Crusade failed miserably for the Space Marines despite how many chapters went in to fight.  You can't turn my Orks, no sir!

Okay......he's the guy who beat up a daemon primarch which are basically gods compared to even chapter masters right?
That was so unbelievably stupid, Primarchs can bust small mountains by repeatedly hitting them.
Mine would be Magnus. I like his character, his slyness, and his false humbleness.
