Poll
How do you think the 56th M.I.D. will do in the open?
4-4 The 56th is good but only manages to break even.
5-3 I leave with a winning record but not by much.
6-2 It is a strong outing but struggle some along the way.
7-1 The 56th lives up to its reputation but cant quite get the job done.
8-0 The 56th shock the meta and claim a first at a major GT for imperial Guard as primary.
Less then .500! At least it was a fun experience.

At first I wasn't too floored with the list, but then it occurred to me that this might be a list to go against the meta. With the hydras you have something against flying MCs and flyers. Also, without FW there are not that many anti-flyer units in the game so flyer/FMC spam is probably going to be seen frequently at NOVA.

The manticore is an anti-tau unit. Prescience from the rune priest will also help the big splatter shots to land on target. And the vendettas are good for most things, but will be helpful against wraith knights and riptides.

I would guess that AV 14 spam will probably be a hard nut to crack if you run into it. You're a good general though, so I picked 6-2.

Good luck.

The 56th has only ever lost more then 1 match at a GT once. That was back when daemons where broken and I lost to a pink horror who made over 6, 4+ saves on final turn.

It is kind of my niche to play with strong but sometimes unorthodox list. Hell i won the INDY Open with a 365pt Daemon Prince. Appreciate the support and we will see about AV14. Not as much scared about that then I am mass bodies. I got 2 S10 templates(one d3), 6 TL Las, and 4 Melta that will almost always be twin linked or mitigate cover.

I might be missing something, but if you plan to twin link the melta guns with orders the guys have to be outside the transport. Also the fire on my target order forces cover save re-rolls. It doesn't strip cover. But yeah, you have some answers for av 14.

Unless it is specified in the faq, the codex says that orders cannot be issued to units embarked in a transport. You can issue orders out of the chimera, but not to embarked squads.

Yea they have always had to disembark. Had this come up in one of my games before where an opponent tried to issue one to the squad inside and i pointed out that you couldnt unless it had been faq'd otherwise. I know its silly that you cant order your own squad around inside a vehicle even though psychic powers can be cast on a unit inside if the psyker is with them.

How many points is this played at? Its a rather different form of guard but Ive seen lists like this come up a lot recently, The hydras are the only questionable units that I really see in the list. As Ive seen your previous reports you do vary well so I would claim 7-1.

And sorry Im not familiar with gt's, never looked up where to find them or how they are played, most I know is that they use multiple missions.

QFT!

As for the comment about hydra's. They are great against flyers. They are also great against skimmers. Eldar and Tau have only skimmers available as far as vehicles go. So most vehicles in the meta can be shot with my normal ballistic skill and ignore cover saves from jink.

Hydras have Skyfire, so wouldn't they still be snapfiring at skimmers?

Huh, didn't know that. I guess that makes Hydras a bit better what with Eldar Wave Skimmer spam the new FOTM.

They can only snapfire ground targets, however, skimmers are mentioned as one of the valid targets for skyfire.

And FMCs. Hydras are really good in the developing meta between skimmers, daemons, and drakes. Ignoring jink saves takes away half the survivability of serpents too.

Sorry for the very late delay on this. I have feast of blades this weekend to add to that delay. I will eventually get it done but I will at least give you this. I ended 4-2 on the event and dropped to focus on the Invitational where I had made the final 4 and was still undefeated.
