The idea does have merit. What if the kid is unconscious? But I think a card or wristband is more than sufficient. The argument that it can be lost could apply to a tattoo as well(what if there is deep abrasion on the site of the tattoo and its impossible to read?)

My sister is allergic to penicillin(mildly) and it doesn't work on her. She has a card on her key chain in the event she is unable to inform first responders as to that condition(and several others she has)

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

When it comes to severe allergies, the more layers you have the better. But I think your argument is a little bit off the point, after all, a card or wristband arguably has more ways to be lost or damaged or gone than a temporary tattoo. But that's getting to be a pretty pedantic argument.

For a kid with major allergies, they need as much as they can get. The tattoos are not some kind of 'get rid of bands and cards' method, but merely a means of notifying first responders or caregivers in a way that cannot be dropped.
