For the love of god go see it.

The movie is just awesome and and... just go see it! XD

Some of the tech in the movie is just a joy to watch.

Also, main character from District 9 is back in this as... the villain, you almost can't recognize him that's how much of a badass/scumbag he is in this and he nails the role.

Yes, that is the same man.

Also, be warned, it does have some very gory scenes and a bit of shaky cam in few scenes (the shaky cam seemed a little out of place in this movie but it's not too bad).

I don't mind a bit of a political message in a movie as long as it doesn’t beat me over the head with it.

I did enjoy Elysium as a sci-fi action movie (though nowhere near as much as I loved District 9) but it sadly did come across as a party political broadcast for the occupy movement and that was detrimental to the film.

Didn't mind the political stuff at all since it's one of those what if situations and they went out of their way to make it at least somehwat believable. (mainly with culture and language)

I thought it was also quite cool how there were all kinds of gadgets in the movie that they actually didn't go into at all. Now this may seem an odd thing to say but because no one treated them as a big deal they actually felt right. (the shield, the energy cutter, homing discs, chemrail rifle etc.)

Likewise. Now that Fan Expo is finally done with for the year, I really should catch up on some backlog, and Elysium at the top of my list.

You better do it quick. Its not going to stay in theaters much longer.

I really liked district 9 and I liked Elysium just as much.

There wasn't too much of a political message. Rich people are the bad guys. We need the rich people's stuff. Lets go get their stuff. Look out for crazy mercenaries.

They took the issues we're having today and cranked them up to 11.

The robots are cool. Inspires me for a Tau paint scheme.

I agree with Borne, but that was not a film that had a lot of room for preaching. For The Departed I'd say that was a great film in spite of him. I thought that he was completely out classed by everyone else.

Wait, when did Matt Damon become a bad actor? I've always liked his stuff.

I think that he is an average supporting actor (Dogma for example) but a few roles aside (mainly Bourne) I'm just not a fan.

I enjoy Damon's acting acumen...

I just loath his politics. But, at least I can separate his works from his personal belief.

Eh, it's still on two screens at the place around the corner from me, one of which is their IMAX, so I doubt it'll be gone for at least another week or two. Usually something big takes the IMAX place and a film gets demoted to 'regular screens only' before it leaves altogether. Tentative plans for every day until at least Sunday so far, so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed it's in for at least one more.

I was hoping for the guys with the rigs to have almost telekinetic force abilities with machines, according to the trailers that's not the case. Not interested.

The Departed would have been better if they'd kept Infernal Affairs' ending, instead of turning it into a shaggy dog story. The first Jason Bourne movie was good, but the second annoyed me.

Enjoyed the movie. But it was basically the planet EARTHXICO VS SPESS CALIFORNIA. Good movie nonetheless, Sharlto Copley did a great job as Kruger. Action in the movie was great. Chemrail scene was great, and just like district 9 Neill Blomkamp views people as water balloons just waiting to be popped. Also like that they applied physics to the energy shield kruger used. (ie it stops the bullets and sabots but still tranfers some of the energy to the user pushing him back)

I very much enjoyed this movie and welcome the director's return. Not as good as District 9, still one of the only decent summer movies this year.

Watched it Friday night and both me and the wife weren't that impressed. Great visuals and the SFx were great, but it just felt like it was "off". It failed to give the wow factor, which is a shame as the trailer made it look better than it was. Got the impression from the trailer that Matt Damon's character was more badass than he came across in the movie.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Just saw it this afternoon. It was pretty good, though not great. It was a matinee and I felt like I got my money's worth.

Some of the roles really weren't fleshed out adequately enough, in my opinion. We never really understand Jodie Foster's motivations, I think a few brief establishing shots of her backstory early in the movie would have really made her performance resonate a little more. I also don't understand why Spider suddenly gained a huge sense of altruism for no reason at all.

The effects were really good though, and I especially liked the way the droids moved and looked. Also, there are 3 things Neill Blomkamp loves: Parallels to Apartheid, Sharlto Copley, and people exploding in gruesome ways; plenty of all 3 were present for us to enjoy.

Unfortunately I found a lot of problems with the very premise of the story. I have to imagine the problem that the protagonist was trying to fix will actually cause substantially larger problems fairly quickly; in fact they are the only possible outcome in my opnion. More than that would be spoilers even though I think the trailer alone spells it out.

I'd recommend it if you can simply enjoy it as a good action movie instead of as a morality play and commentary on our modern society. It did a pretty good job of the former but not so well with the latter.

Saw it a few weeks ago. I think it is the first movie with Matt Damon as the main character that I didn't think was complete trash.

Wasn't one of the greatest movies of all time, but it is the best movie I have seen this year.

One of those movies you highly recommend to see but not add to your collection of movies if you only buy those few GREAT movies/series.

8/10

Saw this tonight, well last night now.

Excellent movie. Recalled Aliens, Bladerunner, 2001 etc. Great stuff. Bit predictable, but the journey was awesome.

I like the way the characters are portrayed realistically. The protagonists are in it for themselves, the ending is really just an added benefit.

Not quite District 9, but still fantastic. The weapon effects are just as awesome. CGI in general is outstanding.

Well, this explains the shaky camera in the fight scenes. It must be exhausting being that camera guy.

Um, that's a steadicam.

The thing about them is that all of that extra mass is supposed to cancel out camera shake movement.

I think the shakicam was added in post. To add that cinema-verite feel to it (that I found irritating in all of JJ Abrams stuff ) but at least it wasn't full of lens-flare as well.

CGI PP lens flare at that.

[Unlike the lens flare from the dragon's flame in Dragonslayer, for example. That flame was HAND animated - and the reflected flame flare on the lens was ALSO hand animated. FRAME BY FRAME. That's dedication. None of this push a button and instant lens-flare-everywhere ... grumble, grumble.]

Even better! Think of how much money they could save by firing the shaky-cam guy.

JJ Abrams did shakey cam by actually thwaping the camera. They developed a little wacking stick to replicate same when doing special effects, giving a whole new meaning to the term wacking off...
