Any chips and dents are fine, especially for Oldhammer. 'Back then', equipment was ancient, especially for Chaos, and triply especially true for Nurgle.

Agreed, Chaos offers so many ways to camouflage whole areas of a vehicle, you could greenstuff mutations of the hull, heavily charge it with chains or pikes, go the word bearer way with blasphemous writings or scrolls, etc. And all that will make sense fluff wise.
You did what was necessary by cleaning most of the paint in order to do some serious paintjob, the rest are opportunities to offend the followers of the corpse on its gloded bidet !
Keep us posted ^^ !

That is one of the most vivid descriptions of the emperor I've ever hearing
Thanks for the comments and advice both its much appreciated.
As I mentioned the Xmas break was a really productive time for me so expect infinitely more updates than in Autumn. Here are my Minotaurs which, like everything else, just need basing (I really struggle to motivate myself to do it):
Also here's my finished pink horrors (except for bases...). There are close ups of these guys earlier in the blog.
Thanks for looking, whole army shot to follow soon!

Take a dental pick and lightly scrape off the paint. If you scratch the model just use liquid (or a small amount of solid) gs to fix it.

Thanks LeCacty that's a good idea.
Here are some old Harpies I've been painting up. They're not technically daemons (I used them with a skaven army back in the mid-90s) but fit the aesthetic pretty well. I was planning to use them as furies but then realised they are (a) not troops; (b) really, really crap.
And finally, here is a full army pic so far. Above anything this really proves I need a better camera:

So after a long period of inactivity, I've achieved more in two evenings than the last 7 months. The rhinos are finally built and I eventually scavenged spare armour plates from the late-80s/early-90s ork battlewagon kit to plug the holes in the damaged one. They don't look great but do the job. Here are some low quality pics of them before undercoating, I've now got them close to finished and will hopefully post some final images early next week.
I've also started to think about fluff. I started this project so long ago I initially planned to use them as counts as Grey Knights to reflect the psychic nature of a Tzeentch force. This led to the steel colour scheme. Given the advent of allies and my addition of lots of daemons this obviously no longer makes sense. I'm therefore thinking they should be a splinter group of Iron Warriors who've devoted themselves to the Changer of Ways. I don't know much about the Iron Warriors so would this work with their background? I definitely don't want them to be Thousands Sons as they 80s figures don't fit with their bodiless back story. These guys (who are two of my favourites) particularly don't fit the current TS fluff:

Those are really great models, they could be mutated TS sorcerers, since the sorcerers arent dust

Iron warriors following tzeentch can definitely make sense, since him being tzeentch and always finding a twisted way to get what he wants. As you mentioned , the no-body situation only concerns the Thousand Sons, but I don't see why TS could not fight alongside Tzeentch followers of another extraction, and therefore unaffected by arhiman's fail. This is chaos, there is surely a storyline out there where this happens ^^.
Nice update btw, although this makes me jealous, I just missed an auction on the retro tentacle guy...
Keep it up !

Thanks both! @KernelTerror this was really helpful and inspired me to read up the Iron Warriors background. I'm thinking that this band of IWs were charged with besieging a Tzeentchian fortress in the Eye of Terror. As the seige failed, they became trapped inside it's bizarre, magical defences (endless corridors, impossibly spiralled staircases etc). They were so impressed with the warped defences that they became followers of the great Changer of Ways.
Anyway, weak attempts at literature done here are my rhinos so far:
