I recently played a game where I deep stuck a unit onto the relic. My opponent told me that I couldn"t pick the relic up that turn as deep strike rules prevented such actions.

I can't seem to find this restrictin anywhere in the rules. The only rules for picking up the relic seem to be that the unit must be a scorring unit and that it ends it's move, in the moving phase, in contact with the relic itself.

Does anyone else know of the deep strike restriction?

Thanks

You should be good as long as you end your movement in contact with it...

Agreed, you ended your movement phase with a scoring model in base contact with the relic, that model should pick up the relic.

There is no such restriction, the deep strike rules give you a list of what you can't do, and I can't see the Relic mentioned anywhere,

I Deep Strike onto the relic all the time. It's totally legal.

Relic only states you must be in base contact with it at the end of the movement phase, so you cannot run to it and still claim it unlike normal objectives (afaik anyway).

Deepstrike happens in the movement phase. Provided you didnt scatter away from it (and it doesnt count as a physical object so landing right on it causes no mishap) its perfectly legal to DS for it.

Not sure if i'd want to though since it prevents you from running...i.e scattering out. Opponents turn = blast attacks galore time lol.

I can't remember if you need to be a scoring unit or not? I don't have the book in front of me, but most deep striking units aren't scoring units. I assume alienvalentine is correct about that.

Tac squads in Drop Pods, BA Assault Marines, GK Terminators, other GK DSers made Scoring with Grand Strategy, Sternguard in DP led by Pedro (for the moment) just to name a few.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Unless there's errata I'm not aware of, the Relic doesn't prevent you from running. The movement prohibition is per phase, not per turn. (Six inches per phase.) One pod to provide human shields, the second pod to Deep Strike in, snatch up the ball, and book it towards the other end of the table.

The relic prevents you from running.

"The Relic is fragile, and swift movement will likely damage
it, so the model carrying the Relic cannot Run and can never
move more than 6" in any phase." pg 131.

Although this makes me think if models who are not carrying the relic can run or not.

Technically since it says the model not the unit, the rest of the unit can run but all it would be is shuffling around loll (which has its purposes).

And so are jetbike moves and assault moves. But those are done in assault phase anyway.

Yeah i noticed that when i started playing Tau. I dont have my BRB right now (i moved, and its in the mail along with my models n such) but i think it said you cant move more than 6" period. If it just says movement then you could and ohhh man people would flip lol. Unfortunately i dont know of a single jetpack unit thats scoring, and i'd never put a bike group on the relic except last minute because now they only move 6" and i want them for their speed into assault not their durability (which isnt THAT much more than normal for most armies)

Pizzaguardian posted the quote earlier in the thread, it's per Phase and you can't run. So Thrust moves, Turbo-Boosts (technically not Running) etc. are fine as long as they only go 6".
