Am i the only one getting the feeling this might be a Special Character? R'varna sounds like a name

It is a shame they don't simply sell the extra bits as an upgrade pack. I can feel the anger now from those who just bought a bunch of Riptides to copycat the NOVA lists.

From the way the FW newsletter is worded, I think it might be an actual pattern, like the riptide, that is probably just named after some commander of something. The newsletter gives the impression that there are multiple R'varnas in existence. Although it is a weird name for a battlesuit.

That Riptide is a home run for sure and I'll be buying one (5th total). I do disagree with the people in this thread who said they don't like the regular one. I find it one of the best models in all of 40K, but to each their own I guess.

"A development of the Riptide, the R’Varna sacrifices mobility for heavier armour and increased firepower in the form of two pulse submunition cannon."

A pulse submunition rifle is 24" Str 5 AP 6 assault 1 large blast ignore cover; I dread to think what a cannon does. And this thing has two.

I wonder how the armour gets heavier from the 2+ and invulnerable save.

Higher toughness, wounds or a higher invul save.

I wonder how easily I can change it from a riptide to the suit with Magnets

And I just noticed that the R’Varna costs as much as a stock GW Wraithknight.

I think I am one of the few people who is not a fan of this kit. Normally I love the FW Tau kits but this one just seems to be far too top-heavy. Granted that is only because of the silly legs it has but still not my cup of tea...

I don't play Tau, but that's a pretty kit.

I dunno. I'm going to be a voice of dissent here.

I love the head, and like the back of it.

The guns are somewhere in between goofy looking and downright stupid to me. They are way too big. The Ion Cannon on the riptide was pushing the upper envelope of scale for my tastes, but two guns nearly twice it's size ? Kinda dumb.

I mean looking at it, that mech couldn't put its arms down straight by it's sides without scraping the guns on the ground. That just makes no sense.

Damn that's a sexy kit. Shut up and take my money. It's a damn shame my painting skills would never do a suit like that any justice

love the fact that tau are getting another fw suit, very cool.

I just hope they have someone else write the rules for it....with a few minor exceptions (barracuda, remora) the majority of the tau fw units are pretty bad (the xv9's are painful).
(have the person who wrote the new wraithseer rules write it....)

Still, might use this for the named guy from the farsight supplement if I can figure out how to mag the weapons.

Honestly, I'm not all that impressed. It seems like a repeat of the Storm Eagle: someone at FW realizes how ugly the plastic kit is and makes a conversion kit to improve it, but it's still held back by the need to cut costs by using the plastic sprues. It's obviously better than the Riptide, but is it really better enough to buy one?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

GW are having/getting a revamped website around April next year AFAIK.

At least it's better than the plastic kit, but still not good enough. I guess even FW could not make the new plastic flyers look anything other than ludicrous.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The thing that bugs me is that the arms/guns and the head/chest look like they belong to different models. The chest is a utilitarian 1980s style design that looks like an upsized XV25 torso, while the arms are heavily curved and stylized more along the lines of the 2000s. It's like a AT VOTOMs scopedog with Code Geass weapons.
