Hey Dakka,
Not sure if this is he right place for this. But my car was broken into last night in my parking garage and my entire army was stolen. For those of you who dont know me it was about 3000 pts of orks and Space Wolves all painted to award wining standards. If anyone see some really nice orks up for sale in a local pawn shop or strew out on the side of the road just let me know. Its garbage day and I cringe to think it might be in the trash. There are well over a 1000 hours of work in there.
I live in North Hollywood in California.
The perp didnt know what was in the cast cause he didnt steal my box of scenery that was sitting right next to it even though it had a tank or two in the box. I know its a long shot but I figured Id let you guys know. Life stinks sometimes,
Thanks dakka,
Fox

That's horrible news. That was a beautiful army. I'll keep an eye on Ebay in case they realize how valuable it really is.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Step one, check alleys and dumpsters near the theft. Most of the time armies get ditched when the thief figures out what they really are.

Yeah, I would think most people who are robbing your car thought it was a gun case or tools/camera equipment.
Sadly, they probably won't know the value and just dump them. :(

Me and my dog trolled around for about 2, 3 hours in the LA heat. Nothing. At least the army was big enough that I should get about a grand from insurance after my deductible. More if they factor in the painting.

A theft is a theft, if you are lucky they forgot to wear gloves and the police might be able to track him/her with their fingerprints. Chances are they won't be able to work out who it was but it's worth a try isn't it? Oh, nice army by the way , not that this is probably the best time to say it...

So, so, so sorry to hear it. I think we all feel your pain. It's not the monetary value of the army, it's the love and time poured into it.
It must be a nightmare to walk out to your car in the morning to find this. It's stories like these that make me ALWAYS remove my miniatures from the car when I get home from gaming, no matter how tired I am.

Chances are probably not. Even with finger prints they usually wouldn't put much effort into it and let the insurance company deal with it.
Best of luck and il keep an eye out on Craigslist.

Ugh, the worst. This happnened to me many years ago. A 7 year running RIFTS campaign came to a screeching halt as i forgot to put my duffelbag full of books into my trunk when i went out to a bar with some buds.
Came back and it was gone.
If it was not targeted (i.e. a gamer who knew what it was), then they are likely in a dumpster somewhere. Most smash and grabs like this are crimes of opportunity, and if the perp opened the bag a few blocks away and saw that it was nothing that he would see value in (would probably look like toys to your average hood), he probably dumped the incriminating evidence first chance he got.
Which sucks, as these are gorgeous. :(
I hope you find them bud!

Sucks to hear your orks got jacked.I know you spent alot of time working on them. But if the insurance pays for the painting you could do up another ork army with 3rd party parts or you can start up another army altogether .

In cases like this with just property and no people involved, they don't even dust for finger prints.
