so i was just wander what you think should come in the next starter set.

I was thinking for the armies space marines(they all have space marines), i don't think they should a specific chapter because that narrows the audience and makes them harder to convert. And as apposing force necrons because they don't get much love and i would work well with the damnos war zone.
the space marines should have a captain, 2 tac sqauds, dreadnought. i don't play necrons so i dont know about them.
It also needs some scenery to make it a better starter.

What are your ideas?

Wherever they tell me

Honestly I'd be a fan of them moving away from the whole "Marines vs xenos" pattern of starter sets. But if I had to guess, I'd love to see it be:
-IG vs Eldar
-GK vs Daemons (if the continue the "greatest enemy" deal)
-Eldar vs Necrons
-Tau vs Orks
-Tyranids vs SM

Just a few ideas.

Tyranids 10000 points
Orks 3500 points
Raven Guard 3000 points

Grey knights vs necrons. That would time nicely with having them as the first 7th edition codecs. Since they have pseudo 6th codexes already.

I think Marines will always be a part of the starter system, as they can fill so many roles and, like it or not, are the face of 40k for the most part.

So the question boils down to what their opponents are?

We've seen Orks twice, Nids, Chaos and Dark Eldar in the past. I think the most likely would either be Eldar or Tau, followed by Necrons or Orks again.

I'd like them to move away from marines vs horde xenos/chaos, and have IG as the 'good guy' army, with eldar or crons as the non-horde baddies. Both armies have never featured in starters, and still cover all the basics. Maybe min-sized platoon (couple of special/heavy weapons), vet squad with special weapons, Lord Commissar, and a sentinel (or maybe even a Russ?), Vs overlord, 10 warriors, 5 immortals, wraiths maybe?

On the sujbect of marines, I actually like the sculpted detail, I'll happily sacrifice some genericness for the level of detail on the DV marines.

Whenever this thread comes up, I always posit for an Armageddon one. Steel Legion vs. Orks would be great, and you'd get a solid shooting army and a solid close combat/close range shooting army in a box. Two infantry squads, a command squad, a heavy weapons squad or two, a lord Commissar and a Sentinel or two would be a nice little starter force, while Orks got a similar disposition of forces to Black Reach.

The other one would be Sancuary 101 with Sisters and Necrons, but that seems a little too niche to really sell well enough to be a starter box.

yeah space marines are a big part of the beginner sets. i think it mainly because they are beginner friendly. though there are a few complex rules but beginners can just have a simple game and they have less complex painting because you don't have to paint alien skin tones or do proper shading on muscle because they mostly are in there Armour.

IG vs Nids. I would love it.

a CCS with a Commissar, a squad of 15 guardsmen with a flamer, a HWS with HBs, and a Sentinal with a lascannon.

vs

20 Termigants, 20 Hormigaunts, and a Warrior Prime.

Ig vs daemons

Sisters of battle vs necrons

Blood angels vs tau

Keep it fluffy and off the wall. Necrons don't get paid attention to, nor do imperial guard.

Chaos, sm, and orks are overplayed... Damn posterboy armies.

All kinds of really good fluff with daemons vs guard. I'm sure they can pull one of those out to make a good starter

But I doubt it would make a good scenario/campaign because every mission would begin with 'A Wild Daemon Appears' and end with 'First Rank Fire Second Rank Fire was super effective, Daemon faints'. And unless they wanted to put in a big kit (Any big daemon, soulgrinder, anything bigger then a daemon prince) which is unlikely the daemon hordes will get simply annihilated by massed shots. Then again, when have starter sets cared about balance...

The starter set will always be Marines. Posting anything else is just hopeless wishlisting.

Though, I'd think it was cool if they did Spess Mahrines with some IGuard. That's probably still hopeless wishlisting too though.

As far as generic Marines, I honestly think the switch to Dark Angels was deliberately so the Marines weren't generic.

Think about how much lost revenue there is from a set like AoBR or BFM. Budget players were just picking up the starter boxed sets for the bargain priced models. Then either selling the ones they didn't want on Ebay, or to friends.

But with every start box sold, there's wasted money on plastic templates an rule books etc. It makes a lot more sense to release the Dark Angels, which are a niche army. It takes a lot of effort to turn the Cheapie Marines from DV into Generic Marines. This way, if you're not playing Dark Angels, it just makes more sense now to buy a Tactical Squad box, which has a higher margin.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Plot advancement: we've found your secret.

Or rather for the story, some SW found out about the DA stuff and the DA are going to try to silence them before they rejoin their friends.

Dark Angels got the seat this edition though, so I don't see it happening.
