A just-released 911 call reveals the dramatic moment when two Dallas-area teens were able to help save a woman who had allegedly been kidnapped after they saw her mouth the words "help me" from the back of a moving vehicle.
Charles Atkins Lewis, 37, was arrested Aug. 22 after allegedly kidnapping the woman, 25, who has not been identified, at gunpoint and forcing her into his car in downtown Dallas. The two teenagers noticed the woman from their car as Lewis allegedly drove her through Kaufman County, according to the recording.
"Yes, I'm on the highway. I'm witnessing a robbery. Not a robbery, a kidnapping," Aaron Arias, 19, told a 911 dispatcher. "It's me and another guy. So we're checking out the girl in the backseat because we're like, 'OK, she's kind of attractive', and then all of a sudden the guy is turned back, looking at us.
"We looked in the backseat and the blond female in the back was saying, 'Help me,' or something, whispering it. So I'm assuming it is a kidnapping."
He and Jamal Harris, 17, drove behind the car on Highway 175 for miles, staying on the phone with the 911 operator as police raced to find them.
"Oh, my God, I'm hoping the car behind me is a police office. Nope, it's not," Arias said.
Within minutes, officers arrived, pulled over the vehicle and discovered the woman, who had allegedly been kidnapped.
Police arrested Lewis and he has been charged him with aggravated kidnapping. He remains in jail on $50,000 bond and it's unclear whether he has a lawyer.
The alleged victim was examined by paramedics and released.

The thought they had to tail this guy for miles on line with a dispatcher is very disturbing.

At least the dispatcher didn't send the police in the wrong direction, allowing the person I was observing to escape, like the one I dealt with a few years back did.

Disturbing in that they felt they had to keep an eye on a possible crime and ensure law enforcement responded or disturbing in that they followed the guy for jollies?
Where I am I would be doing the former, provided there was no immediate danger to myself because law enforcement can be pretty weak in its response, though amazingly the gated community not 2 miles away seems to get immediate emergency responses whenever something goes down over there.

I was sitting in an upstairs foodcourt that overlooked the parking lot of a local mall. A pickup being driven by a naked man who was masturbating drove by and was doing a slow circle around a row of parked cars. I called the police dispatcher and gave him a description of the truck, it's liscence number and the circunstances of what was going on.
It took several minutes for a cop to finally arrive. I told the dispatcher that the officer was about a couple hundred feet behind the pickup, and was told that he would take it from there and to stand by. A couple minutes later, the dispatcher called back and told me to go down and talk with the cop. I went down to find that the dispatcher had told the officer that the truck was behind him, causing the cop to turn around and go in the opposite direction,
They never caught the guy, which doesn't surprise me, considering the level of police work I've seen in that city. I was later told that I should have said I saw a teenager drinking a beer at which point there would have been multiple cars on the scene within a couple of minutes.

Considering the last time we had someone on line with a 911 operator and following a guy it didn't turn out so well...
What happens if the guy in the vehicle realizes the teenagers were following him?

Worst case scenario? He shoots the victim in the back seat, she dies, and the teenagers lives are changed forever.

Or.
1. He shoots them, then shoots the girl.
2. He gets out. They shoot him. Certain MSNBC commentariy guys lead marches saying the teenagers started the conflict by following him and should be charged with murder.

To be fair, you only mentioned shooting people, and not guns. So maybe you were talking about high capacity clip assault rifles, or wiener dog cannons.
The world will never know...

Mmm.... working through some issues I see. But to clarify: He kills them or they kill him. I guess that could include the use of quiche or being assaulted by a FIAT as well. I wasn't trying to be specific as to means.

Shooting people is a tad bit more specific than killing, and anybody could think that you were talking about guns with the thinly veiled Zimmerman reference to MSNBC.
But I guess I will let it slide this time.
