This topic was always important to me so I decided to highlight this important, yet forgotten piece of history...
Pass it on brothers.

EDIT: I've removed my little hate at the end after cooling down a bit

Well...you certainly seem to be enthusiastic about this cause. So points for that.

Of all of the molehills to make into a mountain...

Really?

REALLY?!

Of all of the issues you can rally behind, you go with this. This is why I don't take most of the "rawr anti-GW" crowd seriously.

As old writers leave the core studio, and new writers join, such details unfortunately get lost in the mists of time - rewritten simply because nobody can remember there was already something about it. "Too many cooks spoil the broth", as far as consistency is concerned, and although GW fluff is still a lot more stable than the licensed/outsourced products, this is but one of many minor contradictions that have crept into the newer sources.

Anyways, although I find the bottom part a little "overzealous" (in that I don't think getting worked up about it will change anything), I commend OP for the first half of that image, as it is a nice nostalgic slate discussing a detail of the background that I'm sure very few people are aware of. And awareness is key, just so that the fans at least know that there are several options.

Eh, I can see the enthusiasm from the poster's perspective. If I was painting historicals, I'd be that guy who makes sure all the uniforms have the right amount of buttons, stripes on the sleeves, and whatever other attention to detail stuff you can imagine. Personally, I like the look of red helmet wit h white stripe more, but I can understand the appeal.

Well, I was a bit angry at first but the call at the end is a bit of a joke / fanboy call - don't treat it too serious
All in all, I just want people to remember. Viable sources such as Lexicanum, B&C articles etc. always mentioned this paint scheme. Sources were always given.
I just fear that all of this be forgotten in time. Seriously, if anyone ever tells me my veterans and sarges aren't painted properly as they lack white/red helmet I will punch him in the face.

Precisely!

Did you know that original original way to denote company assignment was by painting the entire right arm that color?

You gonna bring that one back too?

Poe's law is in effect, we've seen plenty enough from people on Dakka at this point that it's hard to distinguish a joke from the real rage.

Isn't that from Rogue Trader / 1st Edition era? If so, not really

I think this is a good bit of history, and it is certainly worth the effort put in, but using it for this extremist cause I can do without.

Just be glad you don't do Salamanders. Your helmet gets retconned. Our entire color scheme, including our SKIN color, gets changed.

Slightly OT, but aren't all the marines on the GW pages/White Dwarf/store painted caucasian?

Racist, I say.

Well, the Salamanders aren't black (like human black) either, they're just mutant black. (Except when they're not. Then they are. Then they're not again. )

I got no beef with people using an older system of demarcation for their ranks, though. Use the older stuff, use the retconned stuff, but there's no reason to be condescending and demand that everyone does it your way.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I might try that.

Do Salamanders recruit off-world? Because then its plausible to have different skin color.

They don't (not as per their old Index Astartes article at least) - but even if they would, their unnatural jet black skin colour is said to be an effect of the combination of their geneseed with the radiation on the world they have settled - so I suppose it should even affect offworlders, if they were recruited.

Personally I really like to see a sense of loyalty to your team choice.

But to the OP, at this day in age its not surprising really that things get watered down and forgotten.
This is there era where only money matters, there are very few people who have pride or commitment to their work.
Look around your own company or office. If you do take that extra step to produce things correctly and first time. You'll be one of the rare few.

From corporations, this problem is only compounded.

But we all have people like you and thank god. You remember, remind and keep the info alive.
Stick at it, and ignore anyone who flames you for your opinions and choices.
Remember it's your god given right to an opinion
