Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle
|
Space Marine on Xbox and Dawn of War 2 on the PC were excellent gateway drugs, but when I started reading the Black Library I was hooked. Now I've painted most of my DV starter, a bunch of really awful firewarriors and kroot to help complete my ebay tau army, and now I'm working on my first army of my own, the Raven Guard 3rd Company.
I live in Southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area, not far from Game Kastle in San Jose.
I've played 3 games so far, with another friend that is also just learning to paint and play. I'd love to find some locals that interested in a game at a local store. Particularly someone with the patience to deal with me flubbing rules as I'm just learning. I'm working on converting my garage into a workshop/wargaming play area and its going pretty well, but not ready to host people yet really.
I have a crappy blog to keep track of my progress at http://paintingtheshadows.wordpress.com/. I'll post the highlights from it to my painting blog on dakka, But as I tend to jump around on projects (Base coat termies, while detailing tac squads) my thread would be very confusing.
As far as what I have that is playable
1000pts Raven Guard
2500pts Ebay Ultramarines (I kinda despise them, but blue power armor is soo cheap)
2000pts Ebay Tau

Perfectly reasonable response.
I have no issue with a nicely painted and put together group of Guilliman's Sons, but half of these look like they are painted with testors. And I didnt paint them myself, so they don't get much love from me, except to learn how to play with. What I think is an old metal Tigirius has a pallete that brings to mind the simpsons more than UltraMarine bad ass. And I'm not sure if its a snake or a poor ultramarine logo hand scribbled on the shoulders.
I do find my Ultramarines Vindicator strangely sexy though.

Thanks. I could certainly see some Nightlords or Emperors Children in my future, but I need to finish my first 1000 points of Raven Guard.

@HacksawBuchanan.
GamesKastle is a nice place to game in. The owner and employees are real cool. I like that most of the 40K elitist snobs are gone from there and it is now a enjoyable place to play 40K (IMHO). I now go there 3 times a year just to enjoy people gaming, regardless of what part of the country I am in They also have a nice Flames of war group and historicals are popular. This is one of the places where I spend big money at because of how friendly the environment that has been fostered by the owner/employees/gamers in general.
GamesKastle serve more than just miniatures. Card games, rpg, and board games of all kinds. It is a hell of a nice place to go just to have fun and am thankful there are still places like this still in existence.
You are lucky to have such a place so close to where you live.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-
"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".
Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?
You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.

Super Clean/Simple Green/LA Awesome is even cheaper. I find it immensely entertaining that it is usually the Ultramarines painted models that drive down the costs of armies on eBay. I will say that blue blob painting is a right of passage for the hobby, I did it myself when I first started.

Yes, Marneus Calgar has been suspended in Simple Green for a few months now to get all the paint and the wad of super glue off of him. I'm also working on saving a bad ass metal beaky Captain.
