My main problem is, I think a base colour.
I've tried using the
GW yellow base. No good at all. For the turret, I tried Vallejo Green Ochre, which gives us a good result with tyranids. But it's patchy over black.
For future battlewagon I think I'll prime white, then spray
AP Daemonic yelow, which is the best aerosol I can find. (I"ve tried Tamiya and Humbrol). THen I'll wash. But what the heck can I base with, that will give me a smooth base? And do you know of any other rich yellows that might give better coverage than P3?
The
GW are no better, and the
AP is much worse.
IN the photos below, you'll see on the test area inside the vehicle, I've tried basing with green ochre, two coats of the darker P3 are still patchy, and the other P3 looks patchy over that.
I would have used
GW tausept ochre, but of course it's no lagner available and balor brown seems a good deal darker.
THis chap seems to get a good result priming black, then using tausept ochre.
Maybe it's bad brush technique? I could only get a smooth-ish finish on the turret wiht a humbrol brush, which has died, I was recommended the one I'm using which works well for figures, but gives really bad streaking on vehicles.

I can't really re-prime this vehicle, altho I will prime future ones white I reckon. What brown basecoat would you recommend? If I can get a smooth basecoat, I think I might be able to get the mid yellow smooth with a couple of thin coats? What's a brown that gives good coverage? Anyone used the new
GW range?
