Subject: GOP members of Congress thank the Egypt Military
Republican representatives Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), and Steve King (R-Iowa) held a press conference last week in Egypt, praising and thanking the Egyptian military for a July 3 ouster of what Bachmann called the "common enemy" Muslim Brotherhood.
Via the Washington Post's Max Fisher comes video of the press conference, which is bizarre, to say the least.
Bachmann thanked the Egyptian military for the coup and the military-led government's crackdowns on protests, implying that the Muslim Brotherhood — of which former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was a member — was responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"We were cheering in front of our televisions back home in the United States,” Bachmann said, referring to when the Egyptian military overthrew Morsi. "We were cheering for you."
Bachmann, who took the lead in the press conference, said that the three members of Congress agreed that Morsi's ouster was not a "coup," but rather the "people of Egypt [giving] their voice loud and clear."
"Many of you have asked, Do we understand who the enemy is? We can speak for ourselves: We do. We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed, here, for the people of Egypt," Bachmann said. "We’ve seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood posed around the world. We stand against this great evil. We remember who caused nine-one-one in America."
Their unconditional support is eyebrow-raising, to say the least. There is no reliable estimate of how many have been killed in the army-led crackdowns since Morsi's ouster, but estimates as of last week put the number somewhere between 1,000 and 8,000.
In response to the bloodshed, President Barack Obama has suspended a biannual joint military exercise, and has threatened pulling more military aid.

And, in a way, isn't that her magic, as a great uniter? I mean, we might disagree on gun control, involvement in foreign wars, how much social aid to provide to the needy, how to handle healthcare - but the one thing we can all agree on, regardless of color, creed, religion, or political flavor, is that Michele Bachmann is just awful.

I am embarrassed to be an Iowan when the fools from my state elect someone as f'ing idiotic, racist, and (insert any other negative adjective) as King. He is a waste of oxygen.

Bachmann has already stated that she won't run again, so she is likely setting herself up to follow in Sarah Palin's footsteps. After all, she is the "queen of the tea party".

I guess the moral of the story is, in the last 50 years, has anything the US did in the ME turned out well?
Don't just get out, but get out NOW.

Rather than let you try to spin the GOP's asinine stunt, I'll instead point out that congress critters of only one stripe did this sort of thing.
This is not the GOP's asinine stunt, this is Michele Bachmann's (and Co.) asinine stunt.
Are you claiming that the GOP is not being represented by Bachmann? Because I'm pretty sure she's not there to represent Dairy Queen or the Green Party.
@Whembly: no need for history books; the solitary incident being discussed is quite recent. I'm merely calling out your attempt to say "oh well it's not so bad because lots of bad things have been done in the past by lots of people".
Say it. Say the GOP fethed up and said something painfully stupid. Own it for a change.

Yes.
Bachmann is a black sheep. The GOP doesn't want her representing them.

I also would agree Mrs. Bachmann is not a fair representative of the GOP in that she has never held any sort of leadership role, like John Boehner or Mitch McConnell; she's not a respected party veteran like John McCain or Susan Collins; hell, she's not even as influential as non-politician Rush Limbaugh. She is, in fact, a self-aggrandizing fool who felt the need to give her own unsanctioned rebuttal to the state of the union address when not repeating every outlandish thing she hears as if it were fact. She only represents herself.

Oh, I didn't realize the GOP had pulled her card and then publicly distanced themselves from her. My bad. Care to point me to where that happened?

It's a little silly to act like either of the American political parties are really unified. And it isn't a new thing. (Back in the late 50s, I bet you could find a whole slew of democrats who would eagerly tell you that Strom Thurmond damn sure didn't speak for them. ) There is a whole host of people who vote Republican, from tea partiers to the religious conservatives to the libertarians, and a whole host of varying opinions in between. It's hard to find a single politician who speaks for the entire party, since the entire party isn't speaking with a unified voice. (Especially now.) I tend to vote republican, but Michelle Bachmann damn sure doesn't speak for me.
@Replase - Sure, but plenty of people in Arizona hate John McCain too - he had a primary challenge in his last election, as I recall. In both cases, though, they're pretty well respected on the national stage, no?

I second this notion. I really wish he had tried to run for Senate because there's no way he'd have won a state wide election rather than just his little district.

The only thing she got passed legislatively was to get Congress to fund a bridge between MN and WI that cross a federal protected waterway.
Oh... and fail to run for President.
She's so bad that after she dropped out, her challenger Mr. Graves also dropped out because he knew that her gerrymandered 6th Distirct was a R auto-win without Michelle to beat up on.
