Subject: Honor Guard Deathstar?

So, was toying around with the idea to take Space Marine Honor Guard + Chapter Master in a land raider. They come out to be cheaper than terminators, and can fit more models, and thus many more attacks on the charge. I don't have the codex yet, but I know the got far cheaper, and was wondering if anyone could give some insight as to if they think it would work. Gives you a ton of str 6 ap3 attacks at I4, and 11 2+ bodies, plus some av 14.
Something like this? How much does this come out to nowadays?
Chapter Master w/ TH/Shield Eternal/Art Armor
x10 Honor Guard w/ x6 Power Weapons, x4 Power Axes, Attack Banner
x1 Land Raider Crusader.

Your looking at roughly the cost of 4 Stormravens and a teleport homer assuming a TH on the Chapter Champion as well.

there is a fancy new chapter relic that gives your a Storm Shield AND eternal warrior. This will serve to make your chapter master one big hunk o' unkillable destruction.

They did get cheaper. Same thing in the previous dex was 5 Stromravens, a Thunderfire Cannon and a Rhino.

10 Honour Guard with relic blades is going to cost around 300pts, and it overkill for most things. I'm also not convinced that the relic blades are worth it. They're only AP3 and as far as I know they're two handed so if you take them you lose an attack for having a PW+pistol.
I'd say a mix of power swords and axes would be better anc cheaper (gives some AP2 as well). You probably want the chapter banner in there as well, for +1 attack for everyone in the unit. I'm thinking something like 7 HG, 5 with power swords, 2 with axes and the chapter banner is still plenty killy (35 power weapon attacks on the charge!)and comes in at the same price as a squad of basic termies.
An alternative is to get rid of the LR and instead drop pod them in on turn 1 using the Chapter Master to tank the first round of shooting.

I second the pod choice with the CM tanking wound upon arrival; if you're going UM you can use tactical doctrine on arrival to reroll ones on arrival turn, then the assault doctrine for the assault on the next round.
And in that case, why not use Calgar? Gonna be close cost-wise to the CM you mentioned and you get added buffs.

What good would that do though for an assault unit?
I figured the LR, while more expensive, lets them hit home at full strength ideally, while my opponent is distracted by the drop pods im landing nearby their lines?

Don't give them relic blades.
I ran honor guard in the old book, and 6 power words + 4 power axes did just fine. Helps to add a chaplin, trust me. And the banner is a must.
Just have the rest of your list focused on killing things that are ap2 in melee, and you kill all the armies out there, except maybe guard and tau.

Thats what I had more in mind. I can switch them to those weapons easily enough, but I would save doctrine use for the drop pods

Honor guard are looking like an actual usable close combat unit. Relic blades are terrible for their cost, just go with swords and axes and a banner for an insane amount of power weapon attacks.
Pod might actually work for these guys, 10 2+ save guys can possibly last long enough to actually do something, and its only 300ish pts.
There are some issues though:
1- need to get a chapter master
2 - grav guns are probably getting popular
3 - wraithguard flamers are popular
4 - they are slow

Drop pod is much much cheaper than a LR? Also, it allows you to put on turn 1 pressure, as the opponent will have to take care of them or have them rampaging through his lines in turn 2. If you're already planning on having things drop pod in then I'd say that's even more of a reason to think about putting the HG in a pod.

It bugs me immensely that the champion cannot have a relic blade. He's the only member of the squad I'd actually like to give one.

The fact that Grav guns are going to be so popular means that this army is going to suck.
So many effective ways to get rid of a 2+ Sv from shooting.

Grav guns might be a good reason to use them in LRs rather than pod them in - can Salvo weapons overwatch?

You can add a librarian to that and made it into a deathstar, if you get lucky and get the 4++ save power in divination. And have the master if you put one in using the relics. It may be a bit pricey in points but almost nothing will be able to survive.

I just plan on using a bastion instead of my normal aegis. Extra 25 points but damn is it helpful. Not taking wounds is much better than saving wounds. Worst case statistically I will take one wound when it collapses. Better than all the firepower I would take behind a aegis(with all the ignore cover shenanigans.

In the past, I ran honor guard with as many Storm shields and power weapons as I could. Then added a Chapter master or Librarian and popped them in a land raider. usually kept the HG squad small though.

Honor guard can't take storm shields now though right? I know. Command squads can though...and special weapons. Its like the honor guard forgot to bring all the cool toys when they got power weapons.
