I know the point of the compilations is that they collate the information from several softcover books, but I was wondering if there were any softcover books that aren't currently covered in any of the compilations (Desert War 1940-41, Mid War 1942-1943, D-Day, Operation Bagration, Market Garden)

Also, is there ANY point at all in buying softcover books once you have the compilations? For example, if I buy D-Minus 1, will there be any background, army lists etc in the book that AREN'T in the D-Day Compilation?

Many Thanks

Carlos

There is no point in getting the old source books.

I've found there are a couple of things in the old books that aren't in the new.. for example, the old Festung Europa book let me buy a squadron of assault guns (105-Howitzer Shermans) that you can't get in that formation in any army since.

I'm sure there must be other examples - but other than in that instance, and you already having minis painted and ready that you would otherwise not be able to use, I don't think there is any advantage in having the older books. It's actually disadvantageous in most cases, as the points values for a lot of units have since come down a little bit.

Dogs and Devils and Cassino are due to be put into a yet unnamed 'Italy' compilation early next year. They're the only V2 books left in print for late war..
