So I just finished up painting my Szalamdra for the nomads, and was looking to spice it up with some pilot markings or other markings on the brute. I noticed I'm the szalamandra art in the 1E rulebook there is definitely some stuff on it, but I can't tell what exactly it is.

Any of y'all put pilot markings or other markings on your Nomad tags?

Are you only interested in Nomad TAGs or TAGs in general? Most of the art has some sort of unit markings on the TAGs at least. I think there was a thread with unit marking decals for most factions on the main forum at some point. I added some tau decals to my Maghariba Guard to break up the flat surfaces a bit and make it look more like a military vehicle.

Oh that looks really great. I have some of those sitting around too! Thanks for the idea.

Is English the primary language for the Nomads?

Probably not. Nomads are quite a mixed bunch. Just take a look at some of the unit names. You have various languages as well as english, russian, german and the only african unit with Moran Masai. So its likely that english would just be one of the languages spoken. It probably varies from ship to ship.

Daktari is Swahili for Doctor, so there's another African unit.

Hmmm. I've got some cool decals from the dust line, but they all seem to be too big, sadly. Boo. I think I may go with just the pilot name and the szalamandra logo on the shoulder.

Wildcats are also originated from Africa, but Nomads are from virtually all over the place, Szalamandra belongs to Tunguska, so Russian might also fit on her.

This is a bit of a misnomer from what I understand. The background on the Wildcats has the concept being Sarmiento(aka "The Mexican General") recruiting the Mkuki extortion racket in the Lazareto refugee module to form the core of a mercenary group to be used throughout the sphere. The choice was "serve or go for a walk in space without a suit" and he got that group and used them up.

Now though there are no more Mkuki but the Wildcat unit exists instead having drawn from the rest of Corregidor's population, preferring those who grew up in street fights or who have a lot of experience in zero-G work.

The Daktari have a similar origin with the original Daktari having been a group of doctors who contaminated their patients and chose to go on campaign with the Nomad Military Force instead of paying up. The designation "Daktari" has stuck to referring to doctors from Corregidor who tend to insult their patients.

Given that Nomads are all about individuality?

Hell yeah I do plan on giving my TAGs some markings!
Geckos are going to get a nice stylized "skullface" on the heads of the TAG.
My Iguana is going to get something. I'm not sure what yet. Thinking about a Godzilla styled face for the head and then some warning labels and a kill tally that I'll update after playing.

In regards to the Szalamandra art, I think what it was is a stylized salamander(in the vein of the myth not the amphibian).

Infinity is quite logical in its background, the original Wildcats or the core that made wildcats what they are now, were African war criminals the unit from its establishment onward accepts recruits from everywhere, like the crocmen that were initially recruited from the devastated Polynesian division with the vast majority been Maori, after that they accept recruits from everywhere.

Cincy, I'm doing something similar with a lizard I'm painting at the moment - bits of grafitti and Sponsorship/company logos, if you imagine something like the motorbike in Akira.

I've done this with my Uberfallkommando, to show the idea (although this is much more regimented, like team colours). I've used Tamiya transfers as well as stuff printed onto white decal paper.

Spoiler:

Oh damn. That looks great pacific. I tried to put a transfer in the shoulder last night, but it ended up not fitting well so I took it off. I have some of the Dust Warfare Russian decals, so I may use those for like, warning labels etc.

I'll post some photos when I figure out what to do.

I like the idea of the Uberfallkommando being used in a Dreadball type game with sponsor logos. For the mecha, I'd say grab yourself some 1/72 WWII airplane kits and use the markings from them. Go with the German ones. German always looks good on mechs.

Related: I'd like to do Arabic calligraphy on my Haqqislam. Is there an easy way to do this? (Besides become a calligrapher myself? )

Printing transfers could work. It of course depends if you have a good printer or not.

If it's black, green, blue or red, I recommend using Japanese Micron pens. I'm not a huge fan of decals, and a pen is generally very precise. For Arabic calligraphy, you'll need that.

In other news, I've finished 8 infantry models and the TAG since last Tuesday. So that's something for me.

I hate you guys and your productivity when painting. I've been collecting models for about 6 months now and I've finished... 8?

The pens look worth picking up anyway (I'll finally be able to inscribe "Sigmar Vult" on my steamtank--why didn't I think of this earlier?)

Decals have an advantage where I could just type whatever I want in an appropriate font. Plus, there's just something baller about "I made my own decals."

Boy, really ratcheting up my hobby game for Infinity...red oxide paste, weathering powder, now custom decals...I mean, I remember when I started Fantasy it was a big leap to use a wash OTHER then Devlan Mud.
