Subject: Xenos Skyshield Landing Pads?

Hey all -
I'm thinking about making a Necron landing pad, so I've been browsing the internet to try and find any cool conversions people have done to make alternate models for the skyshield. Surprisingly, I'm not finding much of anything. Anybody have some suggestions or maybe has seen some cool conversions for this idea?
My intention is to possibly use it in tournament play, so I do care about making it as accurate to the original dimensions as possible, but I would like it to fit my race. Any & all ideas welcome.

Cut a monolith in half and mount the platform between the base and the point?

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Xenos terrain is extremely rare. We are lucky to have a selection of Aegis Defense lines now.
Here the only Necron-friendly platform I can think of ATM:
Hirst Skematic mould (mould to make plaster bricks and make your own buildings out of it):

But background-wise, Necrons might prefer to teleport anyway.

That gave me an awesome idea - basically use a giant horizontal Stargate. I looked around for stargate models and did find this http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Mechanix-Stargate-Replica-Mirror/dp/B0015KMRG4/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_1 but it is crazy expensive and a little bit too small.
I also found this guy which comes with a stargate ring http://www.amazon.com/Stargate-Anubis-Chief-Guard-Plastic-Model/dp/B004NIX5MK, but I'm still trying to figure out the size of the ring included. Thanks for the idea though, I definitely want to make that happen now!

I think you should do four obelisks for the legs, with a platform that has a portal in the middle. I am not sure what to make the shields around the perimeter out of.

Well... this suggestion might be hyper-expensive, but maybe worth it depending upon how much use you'd be able to get out of it. Try using the Necron Tomb Citadel terrain board that Forgeworld made. See where that little mount thing has the doors coming out of it? You could have them deploy from there as house rules. Then again, that's pretty eccentric. You're probably looking for something within the rules. If that's the case then you've made a mistake---If you're not using the skyshield landing pad, then you're not using the skyshield landing pad, and house rules-ing it anyway. So you know what I say? Decide between the pad and winging it with whatever terrain/landmarks make sense.

Will this help?
Yes, it IS the base piece from that kit. I still have the Anubis warrior figure to assemble. His staff got broken, and I have to trim the haft and head and trigger mechanism to fit a new pole.
The ramp piece is from a HEXAGON terrain kit and is 35mm wide. The overall diameter is about 8" (a skyshield is closer to 12").
My club has a pile of Hirst Arts Egyptian terrain (an old Tomb Kings table) but the addition of this piece and it's suddenly a 40k table.

That one is nice but way too small for a landing pad (about 60mm diameter)
Best Stargate model was included with those action figures (one part per blister) and is extremely rare as a complete model.

Yeah, a guy I game with here only just managed to get the full gate set (he had to hunt down what I think was a Daniel figure to get it - he didn't want to, but the completist/OCD in him made him do it). He just wanted the gate.
Although he does collect figures (you name it, he's probably got a 3 1/2" figure for it)
