Good Day Everyone,
I'm new to the forums, but have been browsing them for ages, I have a upcoming tournament at a gaming convention in my area, and I am having trouble choosing a army list. Any help on which one you would go with, or adjustments/changes would be very much appreciated:
List #1:
HQ:
Tervigon w/ TS,AG<ST, 2 powers, warlord, biomancy 195pts
Elite:
Doom of Malan'tai w/ mycetic spore 130pts
Hive Gaurd x3 150pts
Troops:
Tervigon x1 w/ TS, AG, ST, 2 powers, biomancy 195pts
Termagaunts x10 50pts
Hormagaunts x20 w/ TS 160pts
Fast:
Raveners x5 w/ RC 175pts
Gargoyles x20 w/ TS 140pts
Heavy:
Trygon w/ TS 210pts
Biovore x2 90pts
Total: 1500pts
64 Models
10 Kill Points
List #2
HQ:
Swarmlord w/ Tyrant Gaurd(1), w/ attached Tyranid Prime w/ BS& LW, TS, Regen 460pts
Elite:
Doom of Malan'tai w/ mycetic spore 130pts
Troops:
Tervigon x2 w/ ST, TS, AG, Catalyst, Onslaught, roll in biomancy 420pts
Termaguants x10 50 pts
Termagaunts x10 50 pts
Hormagaunts x20 w/ TS 160pts
Fast:
Gargoyles x20 w/ TS 140pts
Heavy:
Biovore x2 90pts
Total: 1500
69 Models
11 Kill points
Any help would be much appreciated , I have roughly 8000 points of nids, so i have the ability to change a bit,
I have the following:
1 Flying Tyrant
1 Swarmlord / Hive Tyrant
2 Tyrant Gaurd
3 Primes
2 Tervigons
1 Old style Hive tyrant
2 Zoanthropes (1 i use for DoM)
3 Hive Gaurd
1 Deathleaper
1 Lictor
40 Termagaunts (12 more not made yet)
20 Devilgaunts
40 Hormagaunts
15 Ripper Swarms
10-12 Warriors
20-30 Genestealers w 2 broodlords
20 Gargoyles
12 Raveners
3 Trygons
1 Mawloc
6 Carnifexs
5-6 Biovores
Thanks for any help I'm also starting to finally paint all my nids, I have about 4000pts of Space wolves as well, about 75% painted, my nids are getting there but im just starting on the MCs right now, got 1 Trygon done and working on the 2 tervigons right now.
> Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I might mention that because im in a northern community there is a lack of large base of players, so the armies i have the possibility of facing are:
Space Marines : Ultramarines, Deathwing, salamanders, black templar, Blood Angels
Grey Knights
Chaos Space Marines
Chaos Demons
Tau
Necrons
Tyranids
Orks
Imperial Gaurd
Dark Elves
I havent seen any Eldar players up here yet, though the Chaos Marines and Demons player might not be showing up.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Anything? Anyone? Could really use another persons thoughts lol

Personally, I'd adapt list two, using a Flyrant. They're too effective not to use, particularly if you're facing flyers, and they're far more aggressive, together with the gargoyles they should keep the enemy on the backfoot.
Not sure about the Hormaguants though. Persomally I'd drop them, replace with ymgarls (use your genestealer models).

A 20 pack of Hormies is a solid choice. Especially if you keep FNP on them. I like to run one trevigon stock. Catalyst and Onslaught really are useful.

Thanks to the few that actually took the time to point out a few things, still was looking for a bit more from everyone, as I really could use more help.
But this community seems to be more Marine based then anything, guess I'll just move on and try another place.

Normally I'm pretty good at catching Tyranid threads as that's my main army, sorry I missed this one.
Your meta is very diverse, which makes this difficult. Quick questions:
-Did you mean Dark Eldar by chance?
-Do your IG players tend towards any certain kind of list?
If you didn't mean Dark Eldar, I'd Nidzilla it up. No mass poison and no Space Wolves mean your monstrous creatures can actually do their job.
I would start with your second list:
-Drop the Tyranid Prime
-Drop the upgrades on the Gargoyles
-Drop the Hormagaunts (reluctantly I admit, I really like these guys)
-Add in two Dakka Fexes
Another option is to go the complete opposite route, but with the frequency of Tau and IG gunlines I don't know how confident I am in them anymore. Start with your second list:
-Drop the upgrades on the Gargoyles and Hormagaunts
-Drop the Tyranid Prime
-Drop as many hormagaunts as needed to take your 20 Devilgaunts in a Spod
The last option that I'd consider is because of your significant lack of killing tanks from any sort of range. Take your second list again:
-Drop the same things I've mentioned before (including the Hormagaunts)
-Take a unit of 2x Hive Guard
-Either find the points for a Trygon, or buy another Zoanthrope and take a squad of two of them and add another Biovore.
I will admit that 1500 points isn't my best area (I tend towards 1850.) Hopefully though, some of this helps. If you don't like any of them and really want to take a list you created (or close to) then go with your second list and make a few of the changes I've mentioned.

Bottom line you need to run 2 Flyrants the comps I've won are always using 2 . U need a bit of luck because you need iron arm or at least endurance to keep them alive . And DE are still going to hurt you a lot if you don't make a ton of saves but it's still the way to go. Check out my YouTube channel for Nid tips and hot lists. Good luck

The Dark elves is supposed to be Dark Eldar (he usually uses the typical spam lists, with a ton of transports filled with guys lol)
The IG list is usually Tank heavy
The only space wolf player here is ME!! lol thank god!
As for the Flyrants, well I only have 1 with wings and he is a older type, that has 2 sets of talons on him, not much on converting at the moment.
Though I could possibly use 1 flyrant,

Man, idk, I used to be of the same mindset and have since shied away from dual Flyrants.
You don't NEED 2 to be competitive. You don't even NEED 1. Yes your games against fliers will be more difficult, but I'd you aren't Tau you're already having issues dealing with them.
I've seen plenty of lists be competitive with Swarmlord and a Tyranid prime placing the Prime in a unit of 30 gants (and making him warlord). 1 Flyrant is nice to have to apply pressure, but again not necessary. 260 points elsewhere is almost 3x 3 biovores. Or 5 Hive guard.
The point I'm trying to make is by saying "Without unit X , your army can't be good" is ignorant.
Most people, and someone should back me up here, in tourney level play, when matched up against Nids, know what to expect. 2 Flyrants, Doom, 2 Tervigons and typically gargoyles. Pretty easy to plan a match against them. However, if you bring something that breaks that mold, your forcing your opponent to modify a predetermined strategy and play the game the way it was meant to be played (as a live strategy game).
Imho power gamers, who go into games with a static strategy can't effectively handle a curveball. Even tactical geniuses fall into habits of expectations and while much more able to adapt, are forced to play your game, not the game they intended to play before they saw your list.
/rant
Pick the units you like and want to use and use them. Just because the online community says their bad doesn't mean they will be (unless it's the pyrovore....)

Hive Guard 50
Troops:
Tervigon x2 w/ ST, TS,AG, 3 Powers, roll in biomancy 205?
Termaguants x10 50 pts
Tervigon x2 w/ ST, TS,AG, 3 powers, roll in biomancy 205?
Termagaunts x10 50 pts
Heavy:
Trygon TS 210
Trygon TS 210
Total: so far 1480-1500 I dont have the codex on me can't remember what the 3rd power costs on Tervigon so may have 20 points for a upgrade
This is a very mean list your friends will hate it

What kind of missions is the event playing? How is it scoring?
These are important things to know when building the list.
I know you said you are limited to one flyrant, but you really really should try to convert up a 2nd one.
In 1500 playing to win via missions this is what I would run.
2 dakka flyrants, (1 with hive comander)
doom in pod
terv with 3 powers and sacs
terv with 2 powers and sacs
2 10 man guant squads
2 mawlocs.
Its a list that plays to winning missions. It wont kill much but it can take a hell of a beating.
