What's funnier? That's a standard Ork Boy.... with an irradiated hair-squig (hence the bright pink coloration) and a pair of rather well-nurtured (hence their size) boob-squigs.

I recoil with revulsion, and call for the support of the entire Salamanders chapter.
That was no boob-squig. The hair maybe, but I saw no method of attachment save for orkoid flesh.
Unless it is a boob-squig. In which case, those boobs are 80% shark-tooth jaws. And that this ork has gender confusion. And squig-boobs.
I'm not sure which is worse actually...

Orks have neither hair nor gender. The hair you see on an Ork is, in fact, a hair-squig.

Not is Rogue Trader no. In RT orks were partly marsupial and when they got old would wander into the wilderness and give birth asexually, they had pouches for the young and these old orks would impart some wisdom to the yoofs.
In Second Edition the Ork Codex had a little bit, in passing, in the Storm Boyz entry that talked of male and female ork parents.
GorkaMorka introduced the current reproduction via spores.

When Orks die, they explode into a cloud of spores, spores form the entire of Orkoid culture (or kultur). Spores can develop into anything from fungus, which squigs are fed on, to Grots to full-grown Orks, this is what makes Orks so versatile and survivable. A single dead Ork can restart an entire new civilization of Orks, making Orks very hard to kill off without Exterminatus. This is why Orks are often just culled down to reasonable numbers instead of a full-on attempt at destroying them, because this is an impossible task.
Hope this explains a few things,
BoB Automatically Appended Next Post: Psienesis wrote:Orks have neither hair nor gender. The hair you see on an Ork is, in fact, a hair-squig.
And I always assumed the top-knots Orks wore were just cut from enemies or, as you say Squigs. I also always wondered what the purpose of the top-knots were, and if they have some sort of significance or symbology within Ork culture. This is the same with the ownership of Squigs, do only important Orks (eg. Warbosses) have Squigs? Or can any Ork find and raise their own personal Squig? I am also aware that Squigs are used as livestock, but this does not explain the different breeds of Squig, what causes them to change? Are they just made like that or is there a certain environment that makes them that way?

They're squigs... like gretchin, I think they are a sort of sub-race of the Orkoid fungus. In this case, they come in all shapes, sizes and purposes. They seem to be an integral part of the Ork ecology, to the point of having runtherders and others who look after the squigs and maybe eventually breed or build a Squiggoth out of them. Bombsuigs, I think, are basically like puffball toadstools... except flammable and self-mobile.
Hair-squigs are more like.... kitchen mold, I guess. It's black, it's fuzzy and, let it go long enough, and it gets unruly. Orks, of course, will cultivate a pretty nice crop of hair-squig (basically, they slap a patch of this mold on their head, it "takes root" and then the Ork feeds it, combs it, and otherwise culti.. kultivates it) for a dead 'ard top-knot.

Hair squigs are a small squig that's just a set of jaws and a long length of hair. The hair stays on by the squig biting and not letting go.
Painboys use them for stickes. They littlerally sew the wound with the hair, then let the squig bite on at the end.

That works, too. Not sure I've ever seen a close-up of a hair-squig.
... and I *really* don't want to get closer than the internet to a boob-squig.

I like how the Orks have kultivated a special kind of Squig to account for their baldness.. They're like middle-aged men, I swear xD
